"Bullock’s has been a tradition passed down through my family for years now. We’re not in the area frequently, but this is the place we go when we are! Definitely recommend checking this place out.
The real way to go is get the family style dinner with a large group, and you’d still have plenty of food to bring home. Tonight we didn’t want leftovers so we go individual meals and the brisket was the choice. Don’t recommend the green beans. Way overcooked with no flavor. The chicken, the Brunswick stew, the baked beans, is flavor you can’t get anywhere else. Another bonus: they start you with hushpuppies. Great restaurant to stop at if you’re hungry and need something to start before your meal. One critic; they used to make the sweet butter but now they use premade. Miss a bit of the authenticity.
Service was phenomenal! Waitress never let our drinks empty, and was very friendly. Typical experience is friendly accommodating staff. They allow substitutes for most of their combos as well.

The best place in town (and among the best in the state) for barbeque and brunswick stew is Bullocks just off Hillsboro Road. Loved it 30 years ago when I was at Duke and never fail to eat there whenever we go back. Had lunch there over Thanksgiving (visiting in-laws) and it's as good as ever.
