The Brewerie at Union Station

Located in the historic mid-19th century Union Station, The Brewerie specializes in craft beers and well-priced, hearty pub-style food. This unique restaurant offers multiple dining experiences throughout the Tap Room, Rotunda, private balcony and Trackside Beer Garden, and corresponding menus for a casual lunch or an intimate, refined dinner. The primary dining room is spacious with unusually high ceilings due to the nature of its special location, with a relaxed atmosphere and trendy decorative accents.

Erie has always been a big beer town, and a bright, crisp Railbender Ale (a Scottish-style ale) from Erie Brewing Company ought to revive you after any outdoor exertion. Perhaps the nicest spot to combine food and beer is The Brewerie at Union Station, which brought the city’s Downtown train station back to life. It features filling fare — pierogies, beer battered fish & chips, Buffalo chicken mac and cheese — and distinctive beers such as Apparition Amber Ale, which commemorates a famous ghost that haunts the station.

The Brewerie at Union Station is Erie’s best microbrewery and restaurant. Located in downtown Erie, it offers an impressive selection of over 35 beers on tap and food options ranging from classic pub grub to delectable gourmet dishes. Guests can enjoy the brewery’s family-friendly restaurant area’s welcoming atmosphere or venture onto the large outdoor patio for some stunning views of the city skyline.

Of all the breweries I’ve visited in Pennsylvania, I don’t think any have had a cooler setting than The Brewerie at Union Station. That’s because the brewery is located inside Union Station which still is served twice daily by Amtrak. The brewery is located in a portion of the building that is unused by trains today but was once a focal point of the train station in years past.

The Brewerie at Union Station is both a craft brewery and a restaurant, in a beautifully restored old train station waiting hall. The station still operates, but does not use this space anymore. Likely thanks to this restoration effort, the station building was saved from the wrecking ball and is not only preserved, but restored to how it looked in its glory days.

Start your tour off by taking a 10-minute Uber or Lyft ride from Mercyhurst University to The Brewerie at Union Station. The rest of the bars are within walking distance from The Brewerie, making transportation between each spot easy and safe. The Brewerie is the perfect place to start things off, as it has been rated one of the best restaurants in Erie.

Before you even go inside The Brewerie at Union Station, you’ll recognize that this spot is unique- not for its beer, but because it is literally located in a train station (that is still used as an Amtrak stop upstairs). You walk into the grand hall that once welcomed train passengers and instead see brewery equipment!. It is our kind of place.

Amtrak serves the downtown Union Station, although this is not a common method of transportation. The eastbound (Chicago-Toledo-Cleveland-Buffalo-Albany-New York) train arrives at 7:24 AM, and the westbound (New York-Albany-Buffalo-Cleveland-Toledo-Chicago) train arrives at 2:16 AM, making the train a rather inconvenient way to get to the city.

At that time, Erie Brewing Co. had been around as a full-functioning brewery for just a handful of years, and I was just dipping my toes into the brew scene at The Brewerie at Union Station. By the time I moved out West, U Pick 6 had just opened, and other craft beer creators and distributors were making their debuts.

The Brewerie at Union Station calls itself Erie’s original brew and pub restaurant. Located in the historic Union Station, the Brewerie pays homage to the building’s history by creating a bustling but welcoming atmosphere. This restaurant also made history by being one of Erie’s first local craft beer establishments.

Post Office on Griswold Park, built in 1932, with tunnels to the adjacent Union Station and maybe even to Presque Isle Bay. The tunnels included a bomb shelter that could accommodate as many as 500 people plus a kind of pantry room stocked with rations to feed them.

When I’m there for pleasure not business, my favorite spots would have to be Molly Brannigans for their amazing food; the Plymouth Tavern for the beer selection and of course, the Brewerie at Union Station for their outdoor space.

Erie's Union Station, constructed in 1927, was a symbol of the railroad's power. Today, it plays host to several cool businesses, including the Brewerie. The Brewerie is a brewpub serving up local craft beer and delicious food.

The Brewerie at Union Station has a rich ( and haunted) history. When they opened their doors back in 2006, they were the only brew pub and restaurant in the city. Before that—good luck finding a craft beer downtown.
