Reviews Summary
Cross-Eyed Cricket offers a cozy, nostalgic diner experience with comforting American classics. While many praise the delicious food, especially the bread pudding and hearty breakfasts, some reviews mention long wait times, inconsistent food quality, and cleanliness concerns. Service is often highlighted as friendly and attentive, but occasionally slow.
"Small town diner feel in the city! This was our first time here… Waitress (Kali I believe) was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu/serving sizes and was attentive without hovering over us. Kathy (a different waitress was the best combination of sweet and little sassy).
The most important thing was that our food was hot, prepared fast and DELICIOUS! I got the bread pudding breakfast (bread pudding with eggs and bacon). The butter rum sauce on the bread pudding is some of the best I’ve ever tried, definitely ordering again (it was even amazing leftover that evening!)!! Bacon and eggs were also great!
My boyfriend ordered a breakfast that came with eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, and German fried potatoes. It’s not a meal for the lightweights for sure but everything was prepared perfectly! The potatoes were the perfect blend of fluffy and crispy and seasoned to my perfection!
Highly recommend for a down home breakfast…. Just be sure you’re hungry, the servings are plentiful! Will definitely be returning to try out the lunch and dinner menu!"

"I'm happy that I stopped in. Good home cooking.
The service was great, and the roll with strawberry was worth the stop.
I do want to come back for breakfast.
I love the Christian values and messages.
Of course, I had to take home a dozen rolls and 1 pint of the strawberry butter for Mondays work day. 😋 YUM!!!"

"I ordered the 3lb tomahawk steak, with fried okra, which was absolutely amazing and grilled to perfection.
Even though the establishment is older, the food was great and the staff was extremely friendly. The menu has a wide variety of options. The parking is somewhat limited but due to the locale that is understandable.
If you love home cooked food and a social yet private atmosphere then I would highly recommend giving The Cross Eyed Cricket a try!"

THE BEST 5 Breakfast & Brunch in Evansville City (Updated January 2025)
Came here for lunch (around 11:30-Noon) while a family member was in Hospital. We are from Southern Illinois, and could relate to and appreciate many of the menu items-but there were also some that were novel and intriguing!. We tried a little bit of everything (except the deserts we wanted to try also...but they were already gone for the day! ) .
