Blue Horse Beach Cafe– This cute little coffee shop became our go-to this year especially, after our favorite coffee shop was closed for a while. Between the dark roast, non-dairy smoothies and porch that looks right out onto the water, this place is one of those that you don’t ever want to leave. It seems to be an interesting mix of locals and vacationers who stop into the cafe, so if you eavesdrop enough you can probably get the scoop on the happenings in town or what is going on that weekend.

We kick Sunday off with my parents for lunch at the Blue Horse Bistro, where the coffee is hot and the food as good as you’ll find at any coffee-house kitchen around. Owners Eric Rasmusson and Carina Helm have been at it for 15 years, now on their third (and surely last) location with a spectacular perch across from the town beach. You’ll almost always find one of them here – Eric in the kitchen, Carrina at the counter.

The location is great, service was good, but the food itself was just ok. I have a dairy allergy and cannot eat spicy food, so my choices are always limited. However, I can normally get a salad or sandwich on a wrap (I also have a gluten sensitivity), but the salads were mostly spicy and they did not offer any wraps.

A perfect spot to order some lunch to-go and walk across the street to Fish Creek Beach. (I really liked their chicken curry salad sandwich!)

There is also a wide selection of coffee, so I can try new flavors next time. The atmosphere of the cafe is cozy and allows for a relaxed experience.
