Mother Road Brewing Company opened on November 17th in 2011 and was named after a moniker given to Route 66 by Grapes of Wrath author John Steinbeck. It was founded by Michael Marquess and his wife Alissa who quickly brought on fellow homebrewer and UC Davis grad Urs Riner as Head Brewer. Both a production brewery and taproom, Mother Road’s mission is to “hand craft and distribute distinguished beers with respect for history, our community, and the environment.” They’re known for their session beers that so perfectly fit the outdoor enthusiasts that flock to the area and their taproom proudly displays works from regional artists and occasionally showcases music from local legends.

Nestled in the heart of Flagstaff, Arizona, inside a beautifully restored early 1900s lumber building, Lumberyard Brewing Company has been satiating taste buds with award-winning beers and mouth-watering pub favorites since 2010. Beyond its historic charm and a spectacular patio, the ‘Yard boasts 7 mainstay brews, a medley of seasonals, limited releases, and of course, their latest brainchild, Hazy Angel IPA. Founded by the dynamic duo, Winnie and Evan Hanseth, originally of Beaver Street Brewery fame (see #3 on this list), Lumberyard was their answer to the public’s insatiable thirst for their brews and a grand vision to distribute their frothy goodness across Arizona.

While taphouse menus often feature familiar bar food items like wings and fish ‘n chips, Lumberyard Brewing raises the bar, and patrons agree that they’re doing it right in so many ways. Since its grand opening in 2010, Lumberyard has become a Flagstaff institution, located just south of the railroad tracks on San Francisco Street. The rehabilitated Copeland Lumberyard building has served as a gateway to the Southside community, inviting locals and tourists alike to gather for beer, food, and fun times for over a decade now.

Twice the size of Beaver Street, Lumberyard Brewing is a 20-barrel production brewhouse, producing enough to allow for distribution throughout the entire state of Arizona. It’s located on San Francisco St., just a few blocks from Beaver Street, and is named in homage to being set in an old lumberyard building, which was one of the last standing buildings of the city’s lumber era. Built in the early 1900s, the formerly abandoned building was rehabbed, but the original red brick walls and some of the wood are still in place.

Built in 1890 by Flagstaff Lumber Company, the Lumberyard Brewing building is the last remaining structure from Flagstaff’s famed Lumber Era, which spanned from 1887 to 1993. The historic building has more than enough room for Lumberyard’s brewhouse, which can produce up to 11,000 barrels, or 240,000 gallons, of beer per year. Besides top-notch brew, Lumberyard also boasts an extensive and eclectic food menu that includes comfort food classics like macaroni and cheese and more adventurous cuisine such as “Irish egg rolls.

Find a partner to two-step with at the Museum Club or Lumberyard Brewing Company during their Country Western nights, or listen to the deejay spin at one of downtown Flagstaff’s many bars such as The Gopher Hole or Collins Irish Pub. The Lumberyard is also offering Team Inspired food specials, the winner of the big game will be on special for the rest of the week. Be sure to try the San Francisco Mission Burrito complete with pork carnitas, black beans, spanish rice, poblano chiles, lettuce, sour cream, guac, and shredded cheese served with pico de gallo. Or try the Kansas City Z-Man Sandwich: Tri-Tip steak topped with provolone cheese, Yard BBQ sauce, and onion rings on a brioche bun.

Lumberyard Brewing Co., as the name suggests, is located inside a historic wood warehouse next to Flagstaff's Amtrak train station. Trains frequently stop traffic surrounding the brewery, so build in a few extra minutes if you're planning to meet someone there. This brewery doubles as a full restaurant, serving hearty burgers, chicken wings and five different varieties of mac and cheese, which also happens to make it a popular choice for families.

Sixteen years after founding Beaver Street Brewing, the Hespeths opened Lumberyard Brewing Company and restaurant (a Best of Flagstaff best bar food winner). Always in the tanks are signatures such as Railhead Red, Knotty Pine Pale Ale, and Diamond Down Lager, while specialty brews such as Red Rock Raspberry, Snowbound Scotch Ale, and Bright Angel Single Hop IPA are also popular. Beaver Street has a pretty extensive menu, including fish, steak, a variety of salads and soups, sandwiches, and burgers (the portobello burger on ciabatta bread is very good), and small wood-fired pizzas. They've also got fondues and some excellent appetizers, like the mussels in Thai curry sauce and the Maltese tapas. And, of course, their beer—some of which are award winners—is highly praised by those who drink it ...

Lumberyard is a bit different than some of the other breweries on this list – they are a crazy blend of a solid brewery and a country dance club!. During the day, Lumberyard is an awesome lunch and beer spot that’s really nice to relax at for good grub in a cool, old lumberyard building.

Right across the tracks from the 1926 train station building, Lumberyard Brewing is in a building that yes indeed, was once sawing trees into lumber and putting boards on trains. It’s in a prime downtown spot and it has one of the most popular restaurants in town. I was kind of glad I was solo when I visited because there was a wait for table seating, but an open spot at the bar.

Full from a dinner of artisan pizza and housemade gelato, we walked over to Lumberyard. Sister brewery of Flagstaff’s oldest craft beer spot (Beaver Street Brewery), Lumberyard is best known for its Knotty Pine Pale Ale, a bronze winner in the American Style Pale Ales category at the 2016 World Beer Cup. With a piney flavor and rich color, I could understand its accolades.

Arizona Beer Week is back in full swing at LumberYard Brewing, one of the O.G.’s of craft beer in Arizona. Built on the site of an old lumberyard from the late 1800’s, this is Flagstaff’s biggest brewery serving up GABF award-winning beers and a full brewpub menu for lunch and dinner. During Beer Week, LumberYard is doing a $12 flight of beers and whisky pairings.

Lumberyard Brewing offers the best pub food and atmosphere (take a free country line dancing lesson on Friday nights!) in town. Although it gets crowded, they actually have a larger space than most downtown restaurants and are therefore better equipped to handle the large crowds. In addition, the outdoor dining area is just perfect on warm summer nights.

As discussed above, Lumberyard and Beaver Street are highly related and were opened by the same owners. I like to think of Lumberyard as the larger production brewery (you’ll see their cans around AZ); whereas, Beaver Street is the smaller local brewpub. Lumberyard is located just south of the train tracks on San Francisco St. in downtown Flag.

I walk now into my final stop on the downtown food journey at the Lumberyard Brewing Company. They offer good food and drinks and are the spot to drop into on Saturdays if you want to wear your cowboy boots and do some two-stepping. That concludes my food journey south of the tracks and I feel full just writing about these stops.

Lumberyard Brewing is an easy-to-love brewpub with a solid collection of house brews, a full bar, big patios, and a full pub menu with wings, burgers, sandwiches, mac and cheese, you name it. If you’re like us and you love trains, it’s a good spot to watch for them at the train station and crossings in the center of town.

Lumberyard Brewing Company - Right across the street from Flagstaff Brewing, we have Lumberyard Brewing. I walked in and thought, "oh! This looks like a nice brewery!", but looks can be deceiving. The atmosphere is nice though, more restaurant style than brewery style, so we got ourselves a table and a beer.

The Mother Myth mural on the backside of Lumberyard Brewing Company tells the story of Route 66 in astonishing detail. Driving east on Route 66, look for the half-block-long mural embellishing the side of Absolute Bikes that depicts a bicyclist with Band-Aids on his knee cruising by a car stuck in traffic.

San Francisco St. A local brewery since 2020, they make a number of beers, along with seasonal offerings, including IPAs, ales and lagers. I really liked their Red Rock Raspberry, an ale with a raspberry flavor.

During the day you can bring your family and sit on the patio and watch the trains go by in the heart of downtown. Lumberyard is a historic building aptly named for the Flagstaff Lumber Company from 1890 that used to be run out of that building. Saturday nights are Country Night.

Beaver Street Brewery and its sister brewery, Lumberyard Brewing Company, are staples in the Northern Arizona brew scene. Opened in 1994, Beaver Street Brewery was the only brewpub in historic downtown Flagstaff for years. As such, the beers are time-tested and beloved.

This is one of the most iconic brewing companies here in Flagstaff, though there are quite a few of them!. This one offers the largest restaurant of them all though, with typical American fare. Their brews and alcoholic drinks are great, along with their fun atmosphere.

Recommended: People who enjoy experimental beers should visit Dark Sky Brewing Company in Flagstaff. The latter serves beer with flavors of peanut butter and churro. Lovers of alcoholic meads sweetened with honey or fruit juices can try those at Drinking Horn Mead Hall.

Restored from one of the last standing buildings from Flagstaff’s lumber era, sits the Lumberyard Brewing Company. This large establishment has a bit more of a restaurant feel and would be ideal for large groups. Under the same ownership as Beaver Street Brewery.

When your family is craving pub snacks, look no further than the Lumberyard Brewing Company. Locals rave about the chicken wings at this casual spot; get adventurous with the long list of dipping sauces. Other favorites include loaded nachos and cheese fries.

Lumberyard Brewing Co., while close to the train tracks, is a no-brainer destination for outdoor dining. With a range of comfort food, burgers and seasonal brews, Lumberyard does not disappoint. And, as founders of Beaver Street Brewery, these guys know beer.

Lumberyard Brewing Company | Every time we visit Flagstaff we make a special trip here. Kids can hear the train (and see it from the patio in good weather), food is great and the microbrewery makes some great beers (and offers a full bar as well).

We have long enjoyed the brews at Lumberyard (try the Flagstaff IPA) – but we also love the food menu, which features excellent pub grub. Plus, they have a super outdoor space where you can enjoy the cool breezes along with the cold craft beers.

Lumberyard Brewing is located right near the railway that goes through Downtown Flagstaff. They have a large menu, so come hungry. It is usually very busy, so make sure to leave time to wait.

Lumberyard Brewing Company has always been a family business. Kelly Hanseth’s parents started Beaver Street Brewery back in 1994. Hanseth worked at Beaver Street when she was growing up.

On the opposite side of the tracks from most of downtown, behind the visitors’ center, the Lumberyard Brewing Company was the most kid-friendly of the brewpubs we checked out nearby.
