Reviews Summary

Tai Pan Bakery is a beloved institution known for its authentic Hong Kong-style pastries, especially its highly-rated egg tarts. While many praise the consistent quality and unique offerings like the pineapple bun croissant, some recent visitors note rising prices and inconsistent ingredient levels in certain items. The bustling atmosphere is part of the charm for many, though it can lead to disorganization during peak hours.

"When you are craving something a little bit sweet after a meal this is the right place for you. The cakes are eerie, but extremely good.. and the bobo tea are someone else should try in their lifetime."

"Tai Pan Bakery has been a long standing bakery on Main street for many years. From bakery food varieties such as egg tarts, Sponge cakes, roast pork buns, neopolitan cakes, fruit cakes, drinks, and more. There's something for everyone.

Portuguese egg tarts are what my husband loves to have when he stops by Tai Pan bakery. He has said before, this is the only bakery he's seen where the egg tarts are oval shaped, not circle. More egg is a great thing.

Whether you stop by for a quick bite or buy a variety of different baked goods to bring home - check out Tai Pan bakery. Cash only. Parking along main street is tricky so becareful and read street signs. Walking is recommended, park your car in Skyview Mall (a bit of a walk, but worth it compared to the other overpriced lots)."

"CASH ONLY!!! Crowded and loud but this is the norm in a Chinese bakery especially smack dab in middle of Flushing.

Service is quick however overall not very hygienic when not a single person use the tongs provided to grab goods but use their hands, some I even see picking at the bread then putting them back. A lady right after me was basically rummaging through the bread selections both hands sorting out her desired ones.

Though the baked goods were fresh and warm, I find it hard to return. There are countless bakeries in the area that is of the same quality yet simply more hygienic conscious."

10 Best Bakeries for Chinese Pastries in NYC

Walking into this pristine, neon-pink-tinted Chinatown bakery—opened in 1990, with two offshoots in Flushing—is sheer sensory overload. A bustling crowd herds around the counter, glazed-over eyes taking in the pastry-porn display: vibrant fruit tartlets artfully topped with honeydew balls and tufts of whipped cream; pale rounds of creamy papaya and green-tea custard; and moist, delicate minicakes coated in salt-flecked shredded coconut to counter the sweetness. Ponytailed workers whiz about in pink polos with trays of less eye-catching but mouthwateringly fragrant pork mochi, golden-fried doughnuts hiding soft, glutinous rice and savory minced swine.

Flushing Chinese Bakery Crawl

In Flushing I think the only place you can still get a curry bread easily is Tai Pan Bakery. Unlike most Asian breads, curry bread is deep fried. The texture and taste of the bread is very similar to a fried doughnut (think raspberry filled doughnut or lemon filled doughnut and not a cake doughnut) except savory.
