Reviews Summary

Tinies offers a vibrant atmosphere and creative Latin-inspired dishes, with many praising the unique cocktails and rooftop views. However, some diners have experienced issues with service timing and flavor consistency, and the menu may be challenging for vegetarians.

"Delicious small plates and great service. Choice of indoor or patio seating with completely different vibes. Outside seating faces good truck area which is a little noisy with order announcements."

Sharmagne Taylor (MeetingsMaven)

"It was better than expected, small cozy place with flavorful food. We started things off with a mezcal cocktail, that wasn't as floral as advertised but still tasty. Then we had the octopus, which was great, layered with flavors, acidic, somewhat spicy, crispy (the highlight of the night). Then wife had the goat Tacos with a side of nopales, very tasty as well. I had the duck enchiladas, I think another protein would have been better because I love duck, but hard to get any duck flavor with the sauce. Dessert was the spicy brownie, which was also really good with a hint of spicy. The place gets busy on weekends, so grab a reservation. Will definitely come back and try different dishes."

Miguel Saavedra

"The space itself is very cool. I don’t think I would recommend this to a vegetarian, nothing on the menu is marked “V” or anything, so I had to ask the server multiple questions about each item to see if it’s something I could eat or not. Even basic stuff, she told me the rice would be fine, but when I asked if it was made with chicken broth, yes it is.. so it’s in no way fine for a vegetarian. Beans have lard, tortillas have lard. There were a few vegetable sides that seemed to be okay… but I’m not really sure. Margaritas were not my favorite. Everyone who got meat loved it. The pisole seemed to be a big hit, and the pork belly tacos. This experience would have been a lot better if my server had more knowledge about the menu or if the menu was clearly labeled. Or maybe they don’t have a single thing safe for a vegetarian and that’s why nothing was labeled but I guess I’ll never know"

The Best New Restaurants of 2020

But like other area restaurants, Tinie’s reopened recently with a slightly smaller menu that, thankfully, includes all the hallmarks that made it memorable to begin with. That would include the empanadas, perfectly flaky and irresistibly buttery; the achiote roasted pork, draped in a cape of luscious mole verde; and the super-cool guacamole flight, made up of three different kinds of guac. In developing the restaurant, Castillo drew from two sources of inspiration: her mother, whose playful nickname, “Tinie,” gave the restaurant its moniker, and Castillo and executive chef/co-owner Christian Lehrmann’s travels to Mexico City, where the two soaked up the flavors of local and regional cuisines.

Main St. in the busy South Main Street area of Near Southside, Tinie’s second-story deck features wooden tables, a mix of wood and iron fencing, potted plants, and outdoor rugs all crowned with rows of string lights. The bar, called Escondite ("the hideaway"), is an homage to dark mezcal halls such as Palenquito in Mexico City and Fort Worth favorite, JJ's Hideaway. Patrons can sit and sip tequila awhile, whether in a margarita (try the Casita Margarita made with citrus simple syrup) or straight up.

Tinie’s: A fine Mexican cuisine and Mezcal hall hidden in the southside of Fort Worth industrial area is known for their margaritas, Ay Papi (Anejo tequila, house citrus syrup, orange bitters, mole bitters). If you are into mezcals, they offer a large selection including Don Mateo Manso de Sahuayo (complex aromas of hazelnut and almonds, dried chili with fresh herbs). I really like the tapas style menu to start out the evening with tuna tostada and handmade empanadas.
