Reviews Summary

Old German Bakery & Restaurant offers a taste of traditional German breakfast and lunch, with many praising the authentic flavors and generous portions. While the food is often described as delicious and worth the wait, some diners have experienced long wait times and slow service, especially during busy periods. The bakery also receives positive mentions for its fresh pastries and breads.

"Stopped in Fredericksburg for a late brunch, was pleasantly surprised by the Old German Bakery.

We ordered a giant pretzel for our appetizer which was excellent. I ordered the Country Fried Steak and Eggs. The gravy was light and actually added to the dish. The Haus potatoes were perfectly seasoned, and the steak itself was done amazing. I also tried the German Pancake which was delicious and surprisingly refreshing because of the lemon zest and syrup. The portion sizes were great and the prices were reasonable for the portions. I would highly recommend stopping here if you’re in Fredericksburg."

Alden Philips

"I highly recommend this casual restaurant. I went at a busy time & had to wait about 20 minutes, but it was worth it. I lived in Germany years ago, and this schnitzel was very authentic and tasty. It was served with crunchy home fries and a salad. The iced tea was fresh, large and had crushed ice. The service was excellent. There is also a bakery if you want to get some goodies to go!"

Lisa B.

"This was my first time visiting. The food and pastries were good, but overall, nothing really stood out to set it apart, except for the Opa’s sausage, which was definitely a highlight. The atmosphere is simple; I was hoping for a bit more in terms of ambiance and decor. The dishes we tried were the smoked pork chop and the croissant sandwich. Service was good, and I recommend arriving early if you want to grab a seat quickly."

Or skip straight to lunch and enjoy homestyle plates of sausage, kraut, and potato salad.

You’ll find tasty German pancakes, egg dishes, fresh-baked pastries, and an excellent traditional German lunch menu if you can get into Old German Bakery (get there early). You can also find wonderful salads and sandwiches at Social Hauz. There are many other delicious eating options to try, but if you go on a weekend, make reservations or go early because everything fills up quickly, and sometimes the wait times are long, and the service is rushed.
