We went to Galveston today for Oktoberfest, tried Local Dogs finally, stopped at Hearsay on The Strand for a craft cocktail…then went home and tried out my new Halloween wine glass (gold skeleton fingers). Happy Saturday!

Did you know there’s a secret corridor on the Strand in Galveston? 👀 I used to love ducking into Tsunami, then slipping through the hidden passage that connects straight into Yaga’s. Most people walk past every day without ever knowing it’s there. #Galveston #GalvestonTexas #Strand #Yagas #tsunami

Reviews Summary

Hearsay On The Strand offers a chic antique atmosphere and modern American cuisine, with many praising its craft cocktails and brunch options. While some dishes like the Filet Mignon and Short Ribs receive high marks, a few diners have noted issues with overcooked steaks and bland sides. The service is generally described as attentive and professional, though occasional long waits for food have been mentioned.

"OMG! The Pretzel!!! 🥨🥨 Holy cow, was it good! We ordered the artisan bread appetizer and the Pretzel was the best I've ever had. The Hearsay on the strand is awesome! Great food, good music, good vibes!! We came on a Sunday morning and it wasn't busy at all. Friendly staff, amazing food. All around great experience! We started with the artisan appetizer and an espresso martini and a signature Hearsay old fashion. I had the eggs Benedict and it was excellent. Wife had the farmers omelette and both were great choices. Simply devoured, it was so delicious! Give this place a try, and don't forget the pretzel!"

"Hearsay on the Strand delivers a sophisticated and elegant atmosphere that makes for a memorable dining experience. The ambiance was absolutely stunning—classy, upscale, and perfect for a special night out. Service was attentive and professional throughout, and the pricing felt fair for the quality and setting.

My steak was cooked perfectly and full of flavor, but unfortunately, my girlfriend’s New York strip came out significantly overcooked, which was disappointing. Additionally, the mashed potatoes left a lot to be desired for both of us—bland and unappetizing.

Despite a couple of missteps with the food, the overall experience was still very enjoyable. With just a few tweaks, this could easily be a 5-star spot. Still highly recommended!

Oh, and try the wagu meatballs. They are AMAZING!"

"We ate here Saturday night as a part of a group of 16. The atmosphere is interesting, and resembles an older, kind of smoky bar. Not a lot of seating on the 1st floor but we were seated quickly with a reservation. There appears to be exterior seating and an area on the second floor as well. It was hot outside but the restaurant was cool and a bit on the dark side, which was a welcome relief.
Service was great as well. With a larger group there is an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill, and many servers who know this might not really hustle...BUT our waitress, Guinevere, really shone through. She was attentive, answered all of our questions and kept our drinks full while we waited for our meal.
The actual time for our meal to arrive was on the slow side however. It was an hour and 20 minutes before the plates started arriving. Not sure why, but there might have been a shortage of kitchen staff.
My wife and I both got the blackened reddish tacos. We each received 4 small tacos with maybe a teaspoon of snapper inside. While there was a lot of different "stuff" in each taco, there was not actually a large quantity of the "stuff". The tacos tasted good but they were very small and overpriced at $17 per order. Each little corn tortilla was maybe 3 inches in diameter.
We ordered a side of fries and received maybe 20 fries for $6.
The person sitting across the table from us received a steak that was raw in the middle, after they had ordered a well done steak. It took 30 minutes for the replacement steak to arrive....after everyone else in our group had just about finished eating. The restaurant did comp the steak, but the long wait put us late for our next stop on our night out.
Our meal took 2 hours, which is a bit on the long side.
Last impression is that this is a reataurant for tourists...not really a local place with great food the locals might eat. I don't think it will be a repeat."
