Gumbo Diner, the newest member of the family of eating establishments run by Galveston Restaurant Group, offers traditional New Orleans fare: po-boys, char-grilled oysters, and of course, gumbo. Admittedly, I'm more excited, however, to try its daily blue-plate specials, such as Wednesday's chicken and dumplings and Friday's shrimp and grits with garlic bread.

Returning this year, restaurants are collecting charitable donations to be distributed to local community groups. The donation amount varies by participating restaurants between $1 and $5 and will be added to each Restaurant Week menu item. The focus of the chosen charities is feeding, supporting, and the health of the children and families of our community.

During my visit to The Gumbo Diner, I was delighted by the vibrant atmosphere that instantly captured my kids’ attention. The colorful decor and friendly staff made us feel right at home. The menu offers a fabulous selection of kid-friendly favorites, from cheesy quesadillas to classic gumbo, ensuring that even the pickiest eaters find something they love.

Adeina also had time to grab a bite to eat at The Gumbo Diner at 3602 Seawall Blvd. and said it did not disappoint!. She went back for another meal. I’d say that’s a worthy kind of place to try!
