Anchorage residents say eating at this beloved spot is well worth the one-hour drive south to Girdwood and the inevitable wait for dinner. The interior is completely covered with tacky art and Mardi Gras souvenirs, but the windows frame views of huge Sitka spruce trees and the diverse menu mixes hearty Cajun-style meals with such favorites as garlic seafood pasta, rack of lamb, French pepper steak, and shrimp étouffée.

We seemed to spend $26 - $35 per entree everywhere - except at the Double Musky in Girdwood - which was $40 for an outrageous 20 oz steak, husband couldn't resist!. I ordered the halibut stuffed with crab meat dressing. VERY Good, but who needs so much food?.

BTW, it's not stuffy or upscale in setting, but a personal favorite is the Double Musky. Can't speak to the wine list these days, but the food is excellent. Downside is no reservations.

In Girdwood, I recommend the Bore Tide Deli & Bar at the top of Mount Alyeska (the tram ride is the point here) or the bar at the Double Musky (Mile .3 Crow Creek Road, Girdwood; 907-783-2822) for the sheer Mardi Gras-themed weirdness of it all (and bowl of gumbo if anyone needs to warm up). In Indian, hit up the Brown Bear Saloon (off the Seward Highway in Indian; 907-653-7000) for a cold beer, a game of pool and, if you're on a budget, a pretty darned good burger (a deluxe cheeseburger will run you $8).

Naturally, I also found time to check out the Double Musky, which was highly rated in the national press, in addition to this thread. While I found nothing there to complain about, the Food Network top ten rating seems a bit of stretch. Look, it was good (and, my girlfriend, in her usual style, ordered enough dishes to provide a decent sampling of the menu), but I've been more impressed by restaurants in places like Laguna Beach and Orlando (that would never enter the Food Network's radar).

If you go out, there’s another extremely famous spot about 45 minutes away in Girdwood called The Double Musky Inn—a Cajun food restaurant that’s a bastion for locals who want to have a fun night out. My favorite cheap hole-in-the-wall is Tommy’s Burger Stop. For me, Tommy’s is perfect: three picnic tables and a line out the door with rockabilly roller derby servers and Elvis and punk music playing over the speakers.

The Double Musky was my parents’ favorite place to celebrate anniversaries and other occasions (despite being an hour drive each way from Eagle River!). This Cajun-Creole Steakhouse is insanely cool on the inside and all of the food is to-die-for; Mr. V and I finally made a stop here during our September 2021 trip and I can see why my parents enjoyed it so much.

Covered in mardi-gras decor, Double Musky Inn’s dedication to authentic cajun atmosphere is unmissable.

If Jack Sprat is the best restaurant in Girdwood, then The Double Musky Inn is the most popular restaurant in Girdwood. It is an institution. Originally, in the 60’s and 70’s, it was an after ski bar where folks would bring their own meats to cook over a communal flame and dance to polka music.

Girdwood's Double Musky was built in 1962 as a ski bar and at the time the food was served on picnic tables. On the 10th floor of the Hotel Captain Cook is the Crow's Nest with its views as notable as its food. The hotel opened for guests in 1965 after the 1964 earthquake.

Later, the New Orleans-themed Double Musky is the favored local restaurant. There’s often a wait, but it’s worth it for the world-class gumbo and also-world-class tchotchke collection on the walls. Chair 5 is a good bet if you’re looking for pizza and beer.

The Double Musky offers Classic New Orleans cooking with an Alaskan twist. They are the signature Girdwood restaurant for seafood and are voted the #1 visitors choice. They are closed on Mondays and do not take reservations.

The Double Musky Inn has come a long way from its roots as a ski bar. Gone are the days when customers cooked their own steaks over the fire. Instead, diners are treated to expertly grilled steaks with a Cajun influence.

Or how about that incredible French pepper steak from the Double Musky?. All the creative dishes and vegan options at Jack Sprat blow us away every single time. And we haven't even touched on Chair 5 or Seven Glaciers.

I'd say it's worth the drive (about 40 miles from downtown Anchorage) to go to The Double Musky for dinner. It's a really beautiful drive, but it's the same road everywhere. You will end up doing a lot of driving.
