Reviews Summary

San Chez A Tapas Bistro is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and authentic Spanish small plates, with many highlighting the exceptional empanadas and attentive service. While some find the portions pricey, the quality and unique flavors generally make it a worthwhile experience. The restaurant also caters well to dietary restrictions, and daily brunch is a popular draw.

"Pricey for the portion that you get, but the taste is worth the trip!
The goat cheese appetizer paired with the baguette was so simple, yet so good. Definitely a must to start the meal.
Also recommend the peppered steak with the tortellini. It was cooked perfectly!
Least favorite was the ahi tuna. Couldn’t taste much jerk and was not a fan of the chunky carrots.

Definitely will be back to try more!"

Christine

"Wonderful staff. Kaleb, our server was engaging and friendly. The food was well presented and executed. Nice upscale version of authentic Spanish cuisine."

Derrick Delvon Ashby

"Had a great time! The food was great, service absolutely top-tier, and there are truly options for everybody!

I had multiple dishes pictured, but my absolute FAV was definitely the empanadas. I would order them all on their own to-go! They blew me away!

I suggest grabbing a few dishes, as it is a tapas restaurant, so you should come with a family style dinner mindset! (Which I personally love)

Also, I shared a video of the introduction they give when they bring over your paella/tapas dishes. He was so kind and well-spoken! I just thought it was the sweetest thing. 12/10, will be back!"

Best Weekend Brunch In Grand Rapids, MI

Serving downtown GR since 1992, San Chez offers a blend of authentic European, Mediterranean, and Latin American cuisine in a fun, laid-back, and artful atmosphere. Brunch is served every day until 2pm, not just on the weekends, and it includes traditional American breakfast favorites as well as tapas – small Spanish savory dishes meant for sharing, such as Medjooles Rellenos (dates stuffed with honey-cardamom goat cheese), Patatas Bravas (seasoned fried potatoes) and Vieras Y Tocino (seared scallops and pork belly). Beverages include mimosas, Bloody Marys, specialty coffees, mocktails and more, but locals swear by San Chez’s sangria, available in red, white or mixed versions.

A Local Foodie's Five Favorite Grand Rapids, Michigan Restaurants

The summer before moving to Grand Rapids, my mom and I stopped for a glass of refreshing sangria and tapas at this downtown Spanish bistro, and it has been one of my favorite local eateries ever since. Among the many delicious tapas I’ve tried at San Chez, a few of my favorites are the blue cheese fritters topped with red pepper aioli (pictured above), fried plantains with avocado relish, and spicy fire-roasted shrimp. I love that San Chez offers such a wide variety of tapas, including vegan and vegetarian options.
