Among the many delicious tapas I’ve tried at San Chez, a few of my favorites are the blue cheese fritters topped with red pepper aioli (pictured above), fried plantains with avocado relish, and spicy fire-roasted shrimp. I love that San Chez offers such a wide variety of tapas, including vegan and vegetarian options.

San Chez Bistro is the only restaurant on our list to warrant three dollar signs, so you can expect a fine(r)-dining experience. This is definitely going to be the favorite amongst all the foodies and a must do in Grand Rapids. The Bistro is just round the corner from a couple breweries, Grand Rapids Brewing Company and Hopcat. I have to admit that the Beer Tiramisu at the Grand Rapids Brewing Company was also quite delicious and would recommend to anyone.

Our flights from New York got in quite early, so understandably our hotel room wasn’t ready yet. This is a blend of Mediterranean, European and Spanish cuisine. It’s recommended you go with a group and order small plates to share. They have gambas asadas al fuego (spicy shrimp), albondigas (meatballs) and chorizo (Spanish sausage).

Our first meal after getting to town was breakfast at San Chez Bistro. It set the tone for all the deliciousness we came to expect during the rest of the trip. The restaurant itself is two-tiered and brightly colored.

I've also recommended San Chez to people who have asked me at the shop. It's a tapas-style restaurant with breakfast and brunch, and even though the menu is always changing, I really like their seafood and pork belly.
