What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bar Cecil is a highly sought-after dining experience in Palm Springs, lauded for its exceptional cocktails, unique decor, and attentive service. While many rave about standouts like the deviled eggs and pork chop, some find certain dishes lack flavor or are overpriced. The vibrant atmosphere is a major draw, though the music volume has been noted as a distraction by some.
"Phenomenal dining experience. We took a chance and walked in. It was a 90 min wait but it was absolutely worth it. Bar Cecil is a (not so) hidden gem. The food was outstanding. The bread, deviled eggs, steak tartar and pork chop were standouts. The liver pate was a bit underwhelming but still good. The homemade chocolate chip cookies are a must. The cocktails were exceptional. The service was outstanding with friendly, knowledgeable and approachable staff. The decor was a maximalist delight with so much to look at. I couldn’t stop staring at the bar shelving! Obviously, try to get a res in advance but if you decide to walk in, take a chance and arrive closer to 6:30pm when the bar tables start to turn. You could get lucky and be seated with a shorter wait as we saw with some lucky guests. But if there’s more than few people waiting, that strategy won’t work. Either way, pack your patience and prepare to be delighted."

"First Visit to Bar Cecil – A Near Perfect Gem With One Distraction
As a longtime resident of Palm Springs, I finally made my way to Bar Cecil on a Monday evening, and I’m so glad I did. What a gem! Tucked into a cozy, elegant interior with limited bar seating and a few intimate tables, the space manages to feel both upscale and welcoming without being stuffy.
The menu impressed me immediately. I loved the French-influenced options—refined but not fussy—and the craft cocktail list was equally thoughtful and well-curated. Haley, who served as both our bartender and server, was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Sean assisted her throughout the evening, and together they delivered top-tier hospitality that elevated the experience even more.
We sat inside, but I took note of the outdoor dining area, which was tastefully done. Lush greenery, flowering plants, and clever design elements help mask the fact that it borders a busy street and parking lot. It looked like a lovely option for a future visit.
The only downside—and it was notable—was the music. The volume inside was distractingly high, and the choice of house/dance tracks felt mismatched with the otherwise refined ambiance. I observed nearly every guest at the bar asking servers to repeat themselves, and my friend and I left with strained voices and ringing ears. When I brought it up to our server, it was acknowledged with a laugh, which I took as a sign that it’s a known issue. As someone on the younger side of the Palm Springs demographic, I still found it jarring. The vibe doesn’t need to be a nightclub—it’s strong enough on its own.
All that said, the presentation of both food and cocktails was beautiful, the service was impeccable, and I’m already looking forward to returning—next time, hopefully, to enjoy a more tranquil evening on the patio."

"Superb dining experience top to bottom. The attention to detail even makes it to restrooms. The cuisine, wine and cocktails all hit the mark. Curry mussels were so good I asked for a spoon to finish off the sauce. The icing on the cake was the guidance and service of Josh and co. Rarely can a server make the experience feel so natural. Hats off.! I’ll be back."

Restaurants in Palm Springs
Since this posh bistro sprung to colorful wallpapered life just beyond downtown in the spring of 2021, it has been the toughest ticket in town to score—and Michelin agrees that it's worth the hype. Hoping to be the culinary manifestation of British photographer, artist, and Renaissance man, Cecil Beaton, the meaty menu is rich, flavorful, and full of financial and caloric splurges (caviar-topped deviled eggs, Wagyu tomahawk steaks), as well as fundamentally familiar dishes (roast chicken, steak frites, Bibb-lettuce salad, lemon tarts), but chef Gabe Woo adds unexpected touches like seasonal chutney atop a smoked pork chop. There's also a wild visual feast to be consumed (even in the bathrooms!).

Reservations here book weeks in advance, so if you're seeking a spur-of-the-moment meal, your best bet is to arrive before doors open and put your name down for a coveted bar seat. It would be easy to spend a small fortune here on items like roasted king crab legs or Ossetra with blini, but hearty American fare, like a signature burger dressed up with melted Comté, is still very much in fashion.

But Palm Springs is not trapped in time: A futuristic pyramid art installation awaits at Sunnylands Center & Gardens, the glamorous winter home of the Nixon-era diplomat-philanthropist Annenberg family; a new hot spring spa opened downtown last year; and one of city’s hardest-to-book restaurants, Bar Cecil, is opening a new lounge next door in the spring.
