The Flying Harpoon 2

If you're searching for a bar where you can spend a whole night getting rowdy, the famed Flora-Bama Lounge is your spot. This massive roadhouse-style beach bar has been around since the 1960s, and has its roots back in the days when Escambia County, Florida was a "wet" county and Baldwin County, Alabama was dry, making it the perfect place for Pensacolans and people in Baldwin County to come together and share a drink. Today, it has five stages of live music (whether you like country or rock, or something tropical, or something to dance to, you'll find tunes to enjoy), oysters, and, of course, lots of beachside seating.

If you appreciate the flavors of Cajun cuisine and a relaxed environment, The Flying Harpoon 2 is an undiscovered treasure you cannot overlook. With its charming blend of bar and restaurant, this distinctive establishment tantalizes taste buds with its delectable seafood and dishes inspired by Cajun traditions. Complementing the culinary experience is an extensive assortment of finely crafted beers and specialty cocktails, making it a destination you won’t want to miss.

If you’re looking for a good place to score an even better po’ boy any day of the week, The Flying Harpoon in Orange Beach is the place to go. Served on New Orleans Leidenheimer French bread, you can have your pick of everything from Conecuh sausage to roast beef, oysters, flounder and more. In addition, the menu also includes crab and crawfish cakes, oysters every kind of way, salads, gumbo and other Cajun-seasoned favorites, all made from scratch.

We arrived in Orange Beach pretty late in the evening, but we lucked out with some terrific Gulf shrimp and housemade chips at The Flying Harpoon 2, which serves a full menu until 1 a.m. We thought we’d lucked out with their live music, too, until we realized that the lead singer was running late and the female drummer was filling in for him on vocals. She was fantastic … and we’ll leave it at that.

The Flying Harpoon 2 has its doors open from lunch to dinner, serving the best menu and liquors in Orange Beach. The restaurant features a raw oyster bar, steamed fish, fried bayou baskets, salads, sides, sundries, and their famous po’ boys. For their drinks, you can try their original recipe for Bloody Mary, their twist on the Poon Tang, local favorite Bushwhacker, and more.

Now, #14 is the Flying Harpoon– it has two locations as well. The first is right in the middle of Gulf Shores and then they just opened their second location on the beach road. This is what sets this bar apart: 2 big reasons that go hand in hand- the food is good and they serve the full menu until 1AM- not many places serve food here that late especially good food.

Flying Harpoon, the original, and Flying Harpoon 2 offer the mostly the same favorites, but we recommend the second location for a family so there is enough room to be seated. When only the upstairs is open, it has more of a bar feeling, but grab a table on the deck below for a comfortable, fun experience. Definitely visit here if you want to try Bayou favorites.

The Flying Harpoon is known for its Po’Boys and Bayou-style sandwiches. Come to the restaurant during the weekend for their live music events and stay until late for their all-night full-service bar. When you eat at the Flying Harpoon, select from one of their signature libations (cocktails) or browse their menu for burgers, french fries, and sandwiches.

You’ll find fresh Alabama Gulf shrimp, hand-peeled and deveined, soaked in buttermilk, and dusted in corn flour with a dash of New Orleans’ seasonings before a 60-second flash fry to produce a shrimp basket you can’t resist. The Bayou-styled restaurant is the only place you’ll find true New Orleans’ style shrimp Po’boys seven days a week until 1 a.m.

Oysters appear on as many menus as shrimp but with fewer methods of preparation. Mostly you’ll find them raw on the half shell, fried, or chargrilled with butter and parmesan. We tried this chargrilled version for the first time on our visit to the Original Oyster House.
