Reviews Summary
County Grill & Smokehouse is praised for its flavorful BBQ, particularly the brisket and pulled pork, and its cozy, welcoming atmosphere. While many commend the excellent service and generous portions, some reviews note occasional issues with food temperature or consistency, with occasional dishes being described as dry or lukewarm. The variety of house-made sauces and unique items like BBQ egg rolls are frequently highlighted as positives.
"My first time here and our waiter took great care. I enjoyed the pulled pork with Lexington and Eastern NC sauces. The sides were coleslaw and beans, which were fine but the meat was the star. I'd come back again and try other sides next time."

"Great sauces, good food. It was tasty enough, just wish it hadn’t been lukewarm. The Lexington and East Carolina were my favorite sauces. I had the pork shoulder platter with collards and pit roasted veggies. I would have liked to have had some vinegar for the collards, but they didn't have any. I used the East Carolina sauce and that worked. The veggies seem to be steamed, not roasted. D.B. was great and so nice that I didn't want to complain."

"After ordering from this restaurant numerous times, I decided to take my family here. The food is absolutely amazing! Every dish looked appetizing and was filling and flavorful. The mood of the restaurant is slightly dim and homelike. Most importantly, the service was quick. You will not be disappointed with this place!"

Texas-style barbecue is running wild in Hampton Roads. Here’s the best … and the not-so-best
It’s no longer listed as such, but two-location Peninsula smokehouse County Grill used to serve a brisket-pork-sausage platter as a “Texas trio.” A couple Texans personally attested to it as their one-time brisket go-to, and pictures online seemed to grant credence to the idea. On our visit, however, the brisket came oddly wet and devoid of flavor, with less bark than bitter char on its edges. If Texas was once in the building, it wasn’t on that day.
