What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
La Mariana Sailing Club is cherished for its unparalleled authentic tiki bar ambiance and historical charm, transporting visitors to a bygone era. While many rave about the potent and classic cocktails, particularly the Mai Tais, and the unique, nostalgic decor, some reviews mention that the food quality can be inconsistent and overpriced for the area. The service can also be hit or miss, with some experiencing attentive staff and others finding it lacking.
"La Mariana Sailing Club is great! The staff were very nice! The interior was very beautiful with all the coastal and nautical decorations! The marina was beautiful! The food was good, and I really liked the little gift shop they had. Definitely a great restaurant! Have a great day!❤️😃⚓️🌊⛵️"

"Keep driving. Do not go to this restaurant. I'm legitimately baffled by the 4.4 stars here. Wanted this place to be great. Service is terrible. I'll admit we had a large party. However, the restaurant was not busy at all. The server came to us and took a drink order. The drinks showed up 35 minutes later. The waitress came and took my empty glass after one drink and never asked if I wanted anything else. I drank water, which ended up being the best part of the meal. Food all came out an hour and a half later, which was cold. The steak has zero seasoning and was less than 1/2 inch thick. The server literally slammed my daughter's plate down on the table in front of her after she was unable to take the plate from her fast enough. There's zero vibe, no hospitality, no air conditioning, and no reason to ever return."

"This is a unique place to eat or have drinks… the atmosphere is amazing. However, I would suggest to just have drinks. The food was okay but you can find much better food on Oahu for a lot cheaper. I had the poke and was not impressed. My husband has the ahi spring rolls and said they were okay. The bartender was great.. Very professional and we lived the atmosphere and vibe."

The 15 Best Bars In Honolulu - Oahu
Newer tiki bars try to capture the Blue Hawaii experience, but La Mariana is the real deal. Established in 1957, it’s Honolulu’s last original tiki bar and the bamboo-lined and palm-fringed oasis continues to serve the old salts with their sailboats parked in the nearby boat harbor, along with tiki-loving tourists. Glass fishing floats hang from the ceiling and remnants of other long-shuttered tiki bars—think pufferfish lamps, carved tikis, and rattan chairs—have found their way here.
Reviving the Tiki Tradition: The 14 Best Tiki Bars on O‘ahu
Tucked away at the end of Sand Island Access Road, this oddly charming watering hole is like stepping into a Hawai‘i that no longer exists. As perhaps one of Honolulu’s last remaining authentic tiki bars (if there is such a thing), La Mariana is quite literally where tiki bars go to die, boasting furniture and décor from now-closed tiki legends like Kon Tiki and Tahitian Lānai. Complete with murky aquariums, the watchful eyes of tiki totems and lifeless puffer fish with lights up their butts, La Mariana offers a full menu of fruity rum cocktails including the Zombie (basically a mai tai topped with 151), Tropical Itch (a souped-up mai tai with whiskey) and a classic Piña Colada.
Bar hopping on Oahu in search of a tropical treasure: the best mai tai
If it’s a classic mai tai you’re looking for, head to the industrial warehouse setting of the old-school, Tiki-themed La Mariana Sailing Club. This popular spot boasts live music, a fake waterfall, a shoreline of moored yachts and occasionally hula-dancing patrons, along with its signature double rum, orange curacao and pineapple juice mai tai, a relative bargain at $7.50. This one features a dark rum float and an old-timey garnish of a maraschino cherry, lime and pineapple wedges and a small paper umbrella.

For a journey in time back to Hawaii’s post WWII era, consider the last of Honolulu’s original tiki bars, the La Mariana Sailing Club Tiki Bar. Located on the shores of Keehi Lagoon, this place is equal parts museum and watering hole and houses a collection of artifacts and memorabilia from Hawaii’s tiki-themed restaurants past. Hand-carved antique tikis, rattan furnishings, fishing net and sea glass decor, pufferfish lighting, and live piano music set the vibe.

Review & More for La Mariana Tiki Bar and Restaurant
La Mariana is the last original Tiki bar on Oahu, and it is a lush hideaway with a unique setting and radiant ambience. An oasis in the middle of Honolulu’s industrial area, it is located en route to Sand Island from the Honolulu Airport. La Mariana is a fabulous location for a cocktail, to enjoy the ‘golden hour’ of sunset, and to sit and watch the many sailboats docked right beside the restaurant.
The 20 Best Tiki Bars In America
La Mariana Sailing Club is (sadly) the last of Honolulu's old-school tiki bars. The bar/restaurant has been open since 1957 and was featured on the TV show "Hawaii Five-0." Unlike the newer tiki bars that focus on craft cocktails and innovative menus, you will only find a small menu of classics here. What it may lack in novelty, La Mariana makes up for it with the nostalgia and dive bar prices.

**Considered by many to be the “Tiki god” of all Tiki bars, it’s fair to say that La Mariana is in a Tiki bar league of its own, and for good reason. Legend has it that La Mariana is one of Honolulu’s last standing bars of its kind. And reminders are constant in the form of the venue’s 50’s inspired Tiki décor, watchful Tikis carved out of old wood and the old-fashioned Koa wood tables.

Functioning as an actual marina, La Mariana is located off the beaten path near Keehi Lagoon. You’d never just run into this place, which makes the effort to get here so worthwhile.
