Reviews Summary

Senia is lauded for its upscale dining experience, impeccable service, and artfully presented dishes that showcase local ingredients with a modern twist. While many rave about unique creations like the bone marrow and signature cocktails, some find the price point high for the overall flavor experience, particularly for certain expensive dishes.

"We’d heard great things about this spot and were excited to have dinner here with our family. While the restaurant is located in a rundown part of Chinatown, the interior is charming—with warm lighting and beautiful wisteria-style chandeliers creating a cozy atmosphere.
We shared the mushroom and cheese tarts, the incredible roasted bone marrow with roasted beef and Hawaiian rolls, shrimp tagliatelle (my favorite), smoked salmon with waffles, and roasted potatoes. Every dish was flavorful and delicious.
They’re also known for their cocktails—Freddie, the smoked old fashioned with a blood orange ice cube, was excellent. Our server, Krista, was friendly and attentive. We’re already looking forward to coming back!"

Marie Kang-Scott

"Of course we had to try the tasting menu so we could get a taste of the best dishes the chef wanted to offer. We also paid with the wine pairing. The food was beautifully plated but overall, really not much to write home about (probably because we are comparing with the NYC food scene which is incredible). We found that the food in Oahu was really not much to rave about but if you’re looking for an upscale dining experience in a sea of “meh” food, this is one of the places to check out.

"Terrific service and atmosphere, too pricey.

This was a very enjoyable dinner experience. Our server was excellent — he helped us navigate the menu, answered any questions we had, and stayed attentive (but not overly so) throughout the meal.

The two sommeliers were also great mixologists. I suggest asking them to create something for you off-menu (I asked for something like an espresso martini but with rum, the cocktail they created was yummy!)

The food here came a bit short of expectations for the price. Our first 3 dishes were solid (cheese and mushroom tarts, bone marrow, ravioli). While none of these dishes were especially unique or “the best I’ve ever had”, I would eat any of these again.

We were most excited for our fourth dish, the wagu. Unfortunately it did not live up to our high expectations or the $200 price tag. The steak was just fine, nothing special, and not as buttery or flavorful as I was expecting in comparison to other wagu I’ve had. The mushroom side dish was also not very good, just basic sliced mushrooms in a bland sauce with some cheese (still cold) crumbled on top. The side of potatoes were bland and tasted stale as soon as they lost their heat (so eat them fast!).

Overall, this is a great spot if you’re looking for the fine-dining service experience. Maybe just skip the $200 wagu."

Best Restaurants in Honolulu's Chinatown: Why You Should Visit

Chef-driven restaurant with pricey tasting menu at the chef’s counter The upscale Senia -- a modern Hawaiian collaboration between the chef duo of Chris Kajioka, a Honolulu native, and British-born Anthony Rush -- has been making a splash since it opened (just next door to The Pig and the Lady) at the end of 2016. Its meticulously constructed, $200-a-pop tasting menu is available at the eight-seat chef’s counter, but for a slightly wallet-friendlier experience, the a la carte menu is a good option with plates of crispy tako and sunchokes, local Thumbelina carrots and harissa, and some increasingly famous foie gras bon bons. The $35 lunch prix-fixe is one of the best deals in town.

Senia was one of the vital buzzed-about openings in Honolulu historical past. The 50-seat restaurant from Per Se alums Chris Kajioka and Anthony Rush delivers two experiences in a single 50-seat house: a la carte trendy American small plates, pastas, and large-format platters, like glazed pork stomach with beet “char siu,” in the principle eating room, and an expensive $185-per-person tasting menu ( suppose caviar, truffles, and foie gras) on the 12-seat chef’s counter. Eater nationwide critic Invoice Addison calls it a “watershed restaurant,” and writes, “ For those who love meals, if you wish to perceive Honolulu eating at simply this second in its evolution, it’s best to unquestionably e book at desk at Senia.” [$$$$]

There are several standout dishes here, but a must-try is the Ahi Brioche, which consists of a freshly baked sweet bread, seared Ahi complemented with a thin layer of avocado topped with a salty and citrusy flavor.

Senia was on the list but they are closed for renovations during our stay- I did see that they are doing a special 5 course menu with Podmore but there is a note that they can’t accommodate dietary restrictions with the fixed menu (totally understandable). My husband is a very adventurous eater so we will definitely try a variety of places. I’m a vegetarian and I’m not picky and am happy to have one or two options wherever we go, but if there are any restaurants geared more vegetarian (or vegan) I would love to know about them!.
