Reviews Summary

Afrikiko is highly praised for its authentic West African cuisine, with many calling it their new favorite spot for traditional flavors. Diners consistently rave about the warm, family-like hospitality and vibrant atmosphere, especially during special event nights. While the food and service are generally exceptional, one reviewer noted an instance of rude waitstaff, though this seems to be an outlier.

"Literally not exaggerating..... but truly my #1 spot now. Authentic, friendly, and QUICK. I asked for spice and they definitely brought it. Go see Ophelia and her family, they know exactly what they're doing, if you go anywhere else I cannot guarantee the same quality and deliciousness : )

Pictured below is Efo Riro (no meat), Egusi (no meat), Jollof Rice + sauce (no meat), Fish Pepper Soup (no meat) all with pounded yam"

"Although this place is nestled away, it is awesomely, overwhelming, and flavors and hospitality! I was treated with a visit to this awesome restaurant by my family as I celebrated my 60th birthday this year. Upon arriving to this place, I had read reviews. The reviews were pretty good. As soon as we stepped through the door, we felt like family. It’s as though we showed up to our family‘s house and were sitting and waiting on the freshest, most amazingly prepared meal ever! The food was absolutely amazing. The meat pies, the food, the stews, the soups, the drinks, and rice dishes were extraordinarily delicious. Although we live over 200 miles away, this is a place that is worth the drive. If you are ever in Houston, passing through Houston, or like myself, you live far away, you will be glad to experience such culinary exquisiteness!"

At Afrikiko, each dish tastes like it was made for you because you have an in with the cooks in the back. In other words, this is Houston’s best Ghanaian food. The tiny Westwood joint’s jollof rice is slightly sweet with a little acidity from the tomato base, the mounds of waakye have been smoked to high heaven, and the flaky, fried tilapia dissolves into fluffy, house-made banku.

Ghanaian, Nigerian, and Senegalese cuisines — the foundation of African-American foodways — are prepared with care and efficiency at Afrikiko. The Best 15 Soups to Warm You Up in Houston

With origins in West Africa, groundnut soup—also known as peanut butter soup—is a staple of the Ghanaian diet. Afrikiko, a humble strip-mall spot that’s cooked up Ghanaian delicacies for more than 15 years, makes its version with peanut butter, chopped bell peppers, diced onions, minced garlic, tomato sauce, and pepper. It’s pureed until absurdly smooth, salty, and sweet with a strong, nutty bite, and is best enjoyed with goat meat and fluffy, steaming-hot fufu (a sort of bread made from cassava or other root vegetables that have been boiled and pounded with hot water) for dipping.
