Reviews Summary

Nobie's is praised for its creative New American dishes and outstanding desserts, creating a unique dining experience with a lively atmosphere. However, some diners find the music volume disruptive, and parking can be a challenge. Despite these minor issues, the staff's passion and the food's quality make it a highly recommended spot.

"Great experience throughout!

Food is excellent, nicely presented, adorable patio, great drinks and wine selection! Super enthusiastic staff that radiates their love for food. Some of the most succulent, tender, and well seasoned pork I’ve ever eaten. I’m fighting the urge to place a new reservation just thinking about that big platter. It was glorious."

"Unique flavors that offer a twist on American classics. I got a fish hash with the most perfectly poached egg on top with caviar in the sauce and a clam pasta dish with sun dried tomatoes. Both were yummy but my favorite was the pasta! The outdoor patio was very nice on beautiful day. Service is excellent and friendly. Great place to come for brunch with the girls or a celebration lunch!"

"Nobie's is exactly the kind of place my wife and I have been looking for in Houston!

I made a date night reservation here on a friend's recommendation. I was a little sad that the only reservations they had open around 7 were outside, but I went with it. Upon arrival, they offered us a table in the bar area and we gladly took it!

Our waiter was attentive and gave us some great insight into the menu and had great recommendations. We decided on a couple of their cocktails and both were very tasty. We ordered the dilly bread and we both ordered different pasta dishes so our server recommended we have the dilly bread with the meal rather than an appetizer and I'm glad we did, because it complemented the dishes very well!

They offer pies every night but they change every day, so we opted for the menu staple of the olive oil cake since this was our first (but certainly won't be the last) visit. Very light, most, and with a slight lemon flavor - very good way to cap off a delicious meal!

The ambiance of the restaurant was fantastic. We were sat right beneath a speaker so it was a little loud, but their website does provide a warning that they like it dark and loud. I will say that it wasn't loud enough to put a damper on the evening, though.

Overall, 5 out of 5 and we'll certainly be back again!"

Nobie’s may not have the history of other eateries on this list, but that's certainly no reason to dismiss it. Husband-and-wife duo Chef Martin and Sara Stayer are finding success with their vision of a new American restaurant: a house party vibe, vinyl spinning during service, and an ever-changing menu that plays on words (Aww Shucks Oysters; Come Quail Away; Don’t Worry, Brie Happy; and HOV Lane to describe shareable entrées). They’ve also compiled an extensive wine and spirits list, as well as creative and traditional cocktails. The restaurant’s namesake, Martin Stayer’s grandmother Nobie, also inspires in Nonno’s house-made tagliatelle with a simple yet complex Bolognese.

Nobie’s, in its snug Montrose bungalow, is one of those warmly civilized restaurants where you can drop in after work, post up at the bar and have a charming, moderately priced dinner and a well-made cocktail without it feeling like a big production. Or come with a small group: items on the seasonal-ish menu are mostly shareable; dips and breads, such as the “don’t worry brie happy” with smoked grapes, local honey and toast and the dilly bread, especially. But you will want the silky, justifiably famous tagliatelle Bolognese all to yourself.

Houston's Best Pasta

One thing that needs to be known: Martin Stayer, the chef and co-owner at the Montrose restaurant, respects and loves pasta, and this orecchiette is no trifling thing. His kitchen produces, night after night, Nonno’s Pasta, a dish of tagliatelle (accompanied by a very good bolognese and parmesan cheese) that would please even the most demanding pasta aficionado, and the other flour, egg and water courses I’ve ordered at Nobie’s have been, without exception, far better than good.
