What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mercato Bar & Kitchen receives high praise for its cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and flavorful, seasonal Italian cuisine. Diners rave about standout dishes and artisanal cocktails, making it a local favorite. While most experiences are exceptional, some have noted occasional inconsistencies in seasoning or service speed, though these are generally outweighed by the overall positive dining experience.
"Mercato serves up excellent food in a cozy, intimate space. I had the fish baked in parchment paper—the special of the night—and it was absolutely delicious: light, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My daughter had the skirt steak and fries, which were also excellent—tender, juicy, and well-seasoned.
The restaurant is on the smaller side, so seating can feel a bit tight, but the quality of the food makes it well worth it. A great spot to dine if you're in Ithaca and looking for something special."

"The food was absolutely phenomenal. I had the ravioli which was possibly the best Italian food I have ever eaten. Paired with a lovely Italian red wine, the pasta was perfectly prepared and the tomato sauce was divine."

"This place is absolutely to die for. If you don’t like anything on the menu that you think you’ll like… GET THE BREAD!!! The bread is amazing and I could eat it all just for dinner. The service was also incredible, got a taste test of wine, as a family we felt very cared for and respected. I would come here again and again if I could. Definitely a recommendation!!"

Five of Ithaca's Best Soups | Entertainment
Part of the technique is time,” said Greg Norkus, chef at Mercato Bar and Kitchen on North Aurora Street. “Rather than put a soup on the table in half an hour, most of my roux-based soups simmer for three to four hours to get the velvety texture I’m looking for. You want to simmer it long enough to lose the starchy texture of the roux.” Norkus is particularly appreciated for his Long Island clam chowder, a unique specialty from his own north shore Long Island roots.
Ithaca bartenders bars dish out favorite cocktails
With its bar lined with shimmering shakers, it’s not hard to tell that Mercato serves its fair share of cocktails. Pair that with the many liqueurs, scotches, gins and other spirits that line the bar’s far wall, and it becomes clear: Drinkers have plenty to enjoy once they take a seat at the restaurant’s lengthy wood bar. Ask bartender Manny Flores where to start on the menu, however, and he’ll whip up the Gem, a bourbon-spiked take on the classic sour.
