Reviews Summary

Kampai offers an upscale Japanese dining experience with exceptionally fresh fish and creative preparations, often praised for its high quality and engaging sushi bar. While many laud the food and ambiance, some reviews note that the prices are high and portions can be small, with occasional comments on service attentiveness.

"I’m a repeat customer here and have consistently had some of the best sushi, anywhere. Every time I’ve come I’ve sat at the sushi bar and the chef has always been engaging and helped me navigate the menu. The quality of the fish, the creativity of the menu, and the execution are all outstanding inside the kitchen for cooked items and from the sushi chefs."

"Had an excellent experience dining at Kampai during our trip to Jackson. The staff was friendly and attentive and knew the menu well. The fish was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend if you are visiting Jackson and looking for something different!"

Lydia DelaRoche

"Impeccable service and dining experience. We celebrated a birthday and sat at the sushi bar. We were served food by Masa-San with chefs Bryan and David also working the bar, and Logan from Austin TX (where we were visiting from) served us drinks. Everyone made us feel so welcomed and we had lovely conversations with each one, learning about their lives and expertise. The fish was amazing, fresh, and the group agreed it was arguably the best Japanese restaurant we’d been to in the U.S. A highlight of our Montana, Banff, Wyoming road trip. Masa-San in particular was very accommodating and friendly and we loved learning that he was from Nagano, Japan, where we’d previously visited and skied. We hope to be back someday soon. Thank you for the special night!"

Kampai Brings an Artistic Japanese Dining Experience to Jackson Hole

The artful Japanese restaurant quietly opened their doors on Center Street in December, foregoing the fanfare of a big opening announcement and stirring up anticipation from locals in search of a unique dining experience. “We were intentionally quiet about it because we wanted the experience to speak for itself,” says Kampai General Manager Dan “Jiggy” Janjigian.

Owned by an anonymous Jacksonite, Kampai is managed by Jackson local Dan “Jiggy” Janjigian and its menu is set by head chef Chris Massad, who helped lead the sushi scene in another Rocky Mountain resort town, Vail, under the famous Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa. Stop by Kampai, which serves up both local fish and delicacies flown overnight from Japan. You won't forget you’re in Wyoming, however: Some menu items aim to cheekily embody a contrarian spirit: take the “John Galt” roll, a nod to Ayn Rand's libertarian manifesto Atlas Shrugged.
