Adega Grill

Adega Grill is a vineyard-themed Spanish and Portuguese restaurant. Harking back to the old world, the restaurant offers a seasonal menu with fresh, organic ingredients and a rustic, traditional interior. The restaurant is a marked contrast to its Ironbound district neighbours, known for their loud music and young clientele; Adega is romantic and slower paced, with black-tie waiters and many dishes made for two to share.

We have booked at Adega Grill, a rather new place that gets some mixed reviews but sounds like fun -- and they do have parking, which seems to be unusual in the Ironbound district. And it's only about a 10 minute drive I think from our airport hotel.

Adega Grill, aptly named after the Portuguese word for "wine cellar," envelops its guests in an enchanting ambiance reminiscent of vineyards and winemaking. Stepping inside, one encounters old-world charm, with warm yellows, stone fireplaces, wrought iron cellar gates and sconces, soft candlelight, and cozy coves adorned with inviting upholstered sofa seating. The friendly staff welcomes diners to this extraordinary space, featuring unique occasion tables, antique throne chairs, and live piano music that adds an intimate touch.

This attractive restaurant, whose interior features stone fireplaces and archways, wrought iron gates, and walls painted in earthy yellows, is one of the best reasons to venture out to Ironbound. Fabulous Portuguese and Spanish cuisine and wine are the restaurant's specialties (its name, after all, is Portuguese for "wine cellar"), and most of the top dishes focus on fresh fish, seafood or organic meats. The retro-inspired lounge area, meanwhile, is a cool place to hang out, enjoy drinks and make a little conversation.

For a rustic touch of class, the Adega Grill, with its stone archways and fireplaces is the perfect choice for anyone. Featuring a great wine cellar and sumptuous Spanish and Portuguese cuisine, the restaurant is known for its dishes made mainly of organic meats, seafood and fresh fish. It has a retro-inspired area for lounging that is known for being a cool place to hang around in to make some small chat with friends and colleagues.

Seabra’s Marisqueira, Casa d’Paco, Fornos of Spain, and Adega Grill are just a few of the establishments offering authentic dining experiences. SolMar Restaurant & Marisqueira on Ferry Street, long known for its Portuguese and Mediterranean cuisine, hosts the SolMar Seafood Festival every April and September where seafood gourmands can indulge in spider crabs, lobsters, sardines, clams, tiger shrimps, red mullets, and other treats.

Just a short walk down Ferry Street from Fornos, Adega Grill’s elegant dining room is perfect for an intimate Portuguese- and Spanish-inspired dinner for two. Its moody lighting, stone archways, and grapevine murals make the space feel like a downright vacation. Choose from a variety of appetizers (if you eat shrimp, my favorite is the garlicky camarones al ajillo), and finish with one of the many Portuguese mains.

Popular with the after-work crowd as well as first (and second dates), Adega Grill is located along the bustling Ferry Street strip. Due to the pandemic, the Portuguese and Spanish cuisine restaurant added many outdoor tables and chairs with covered canopies to their seating options. True to the Mediterranean-style cuisine, the menu is very diverse in terms of seafood and meat options.

The restaurant’s rustic, traditional decor and seasonal menu, which features organic, locally sourced products, are reminiscent of the Old World. However, compared to the other restaurants near Newark Airport, this one is far more posh, intimate, and appealing to couples. The decor has yellow tones, stone fireplaces, and wrought iron wine cellar gates.

Adega Grill: Adega means wine cellar in Portuguese, so expect to be treated to a cozy atmosphere and extensive wine list. The cuisine itself mixes Spanish and Portuguese influences, and features classic dishes like garlic shrimp, calamari, baked clams, and an impressive selection of grilled steaks. A pitcher of red sangria should accompany your meal.

Much like Fornos of Spain, we've featured this restaurant because of its quality service, wonderful menu and amenities, despite being a little far from the airport. It's perfect if you're staying in Newark or Elizabeth a while, or touring around. You'll love the grilled meats and other items on the menu too.
