What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Adega Grill offers a delightful experience with its authentic Iberian cuisine and enchanting ambiance, often praised for generous portions and excellent service. However, some diners note occasional long wait times for food and higher prices, with a few experiencing service issues during busy periods. Despite minor critiques, many patrons find it a splendid choice for celebrations and a refreshing change from chain restaurants.
"Adega Grill Is FANTASTIC. Beatifully decorated, old school impeccable service, our server was AMAZING. And the food was so fresh and so good. I felt like I was in Portugal. We went for Father’s Day, last minute, an hour before kitchen closed and the experience, the food, the passion fruit sangria and our adorable, Portuguese server, made our night. Will be back very soon."

"Attended a function and we liked the fact ADEGA had a private parking within walking distance to restaurant. We noticed they had sidewalk dining facing Ferry Street. A nice feature but, too busy for it to be romantic with traffic congestion and pedestrians crowding the street. No patrons took advantage of this offering. The restaurant has a few floors with rooftop, and party rooms on the 2nd floor. Nice decor with a full service bar. The banquet room was painted black which was strange for a joyous party. Service was slow and strange. Appetizers can at different times and one appetizer completely was missed and later showed up as an after thought. The appetizers were average. As for beverages. They place one bottle of wine, pitcher of sangria and soda for a table of 10. We had to request a bottle after emptying one bottle. Entrees were mediocre and steak was over cooked. Service was spotty. The bartender was the best part of the entire event."

The service was phenomenal and there was a great vibe."

The 10 Best Restaurants In Newark, New Jersey
Adega Grill is a vineyard-themed Spanish and Portuguese restaurant. Harking back to the old world, the restaurant offers a seasonal menu with fresh, organic ingredients and a rustic, traditional interior. The restaurant is a marked contrast to its Ironbound district neighbours, known for their loud music and young clientele; Adega is romantic and slower paced, with black-tie waiters and many dishes made for two to share.
Dinner near Newark airport? - Fodor's Travel Talk Forums
We have booked at Adega Grill, a rather new place that gets some mixed reviews but sounds like fun -- and they do have parking, which seems to be unusual in the Ironbound district. And it's only about a 10 minute drive I think from our airport hotel.
Portuguese Restaurants in Newark, NJ
Adega Grill, aptly named after the Portuguese word for "wine cellar," envelops its guests in an enchanting ambiance reminiscent of vineyards and winemaking. Stepping inside, one encounters old-world charm, with warm yellows, stone fireplaces, wrought iron cellar gates and sconces, soft candlelight, and cozy coves adorned with inviting upholstered sofa seating. The friendly staff welcomes diners to this extraordinary space, featuring unique occasion tables, antique throne chairs, and live piano music that adds an intimate touch.
Eat Well, Eat Often At Newark's Best Restaurants
This attractive restaurant, whose interior features stone fireplaces and archways, wrought iron gates, and walls painted in earthy yellows, is one of the best reasons to venture out to Ironbound. Fabulous Portuguese and Spanish cuisine and wine are the restaurant's specialties (its name, after all, is Portuguese for "wine cellar"), and most of the top dishes focus on fresh fish, seafood or organic meats. The retro-inspired lounge area, meanwhile, is a cool place to hang out, enjoy drinks and make a little conversation.

Seabra’s Marisqueira, Casa d’Paco, Fornos of Spain, and Adega Grill are just a few of the establishments offering authentic dining experiences. Just a short walk down Ferry Street from Fornos, Adega Grill’s elegant dining room is perfect for an intimate Portuguese- and Spanish-inspired dinner for two. Its moody lighting, stone archways, and grapevine murals make the space feel like a downright vacation. Choose from a variety of appetizers (if you eat shrimp, my favorite is the garlicky camarones al ajillo), and finish with one of the many Portuguese mains.
Best Places For Outdoor Dining in Newark, NJ
Popular with the after-work crowd as well as first (and second dates), Adega Grill is located along the bustling Ferry Street strip. Due to the pandemic, the Portuguese and Spanish cuisine restaurant added many outdoor tables and chairs with covered canopies to their seating options. True to the Mediterranean-style cuisine, the menu is very diverse in terms of seafood and meat options.
