The Sandpiper is located several blocks from the cruise ship docks, on Willoughby Avenue, near the bowling alley and the Salvation Army retail store. The post-COVID hours are still a little short at the Sandpiper, as they’re only open from 7 AM to 2 PM Thursday through Sunday. That being said, if you can get there early enough, this is one of the best breakfasts you’ll ever have.

Sandpiper Cafe – one morning we decided to grab breakfast in Juneau and the Sandpiper was very close to our hotel. We did Uber because our feet were hurting and we were tired and cranky. The breakfast was good, it was a clean little cafe and there were a lot of folks that had been on the glacier the day before – you could identify them by their sunburned cheeks!

For the purposes of a particularly good breakfast, we recommend making a beeline for Sandpiper Cafe. After you’re suitably full, it’s about a 20 minute drive for a hike starting from the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Set off from your hike along the shore of Mendenhall Lake, through the forests, and then onwards to the glacier.

Saturday morning we walked over to the Sandpiper Cafe for breakfast. We liked this place so much (and they had great vegan options) that we ate breakfast there all three mornings!. I also loved the oat milk cappuccinos!
