Reviews Summary

Masa & Joyce Okazuya is celebrated for its authentic and delicious Hawaiian and Japanese comfort foods, with many praising the flavorful poke and generous hand rolls. While the food quality is consistently high, some patrons note that portions can be small for the price and that parking can be a challenge. Despite these minor drawbacks, it remains a highly recommended spot for local grinds and a true taste of Hawaiian heritage.

"This is my favorite okazuya and always my first stop when I’m riding my motorcycle on this side of the island!! The hand rolls are huge and super flavorful, and when you can get the veggie tempura hot and fresh it’s one of my most favorite things but still really good even when it’s not piping hot!"

"Pretty standard, local, okazuya. Not many on the windward. It decent, my baseline for okazuya.
Yakisoba is light on vegetables and meat. Fried chicken was slightly dry, but everything else is tasty. My go-to is the chicken katsu, nishime and seaweed wraps. The maki rolls are alright, so I usually don't get it.
Service is pretty typical, since there are many people ordering. You have to order quickly, but they aren't rushing you. The environment just feels that way. Service is friendly.
I wish you can sit down, like it was before covid. However, no place to sit so you have to take out only. Kind of lame, since most places allow sitting inside again.
We got 3 plates, somen, and maki for about $65, it's not bad for the food you get."

"A very popular, iconic local caterer and long-time member of the Kaneohe Windward community. We arranged multiple choice take-out selections for a picnic at a well-known nearby botanical garden."

Yo, tourists! Eat more Hawaiian food. Now.

After Papa Ole’s whet our Hawaiian food appetites, we decided that we needed to try lau lau and poi, so we found a deli in Kaneohe called Masa & Joyce that serves a “Hawaiian plate.” For a mere $11.50, our new Hawaiian friends fed us lau lau (spiced shredded pork, cooked in some lily-like greens called ti leaves), chicken long rice, white rice, lomi lomi salmon, and a dessert called haupia. The lomi lomi salmon was basically a fishy version of pico de gallo, but the chicken long rice was an absolute revelation. It’s like the best chicken soup ever, but with cute clear noodles instead.

Growing up in Waimānalo, virtually everywhere to eat was a destination. These days I cherish my favorite Windward spots even more, having lost some longtime faves along the way. Masa & Joyce is my go-to when I have no idea what I want and I’m just really hungry—aka in an okazuya mood.
