Reviews Summary

House of Gerhard is praised for its authentic German cuisine and generous portions, with many highlighting the Sauerbraten and overall hearty meals. Diners appreciate the traditional supper club ambiance and friendly, attentive service. However, some reviews mention inconsistencies in food quality, particularly with Schnitzel and White Fish, and find the pricing to be high for the perceived quality.

"If you're in Kenosha and hungry, House of Gerhard is where you need to be. The service is top-tier fast and friendly, and they keep the beer coming without you even having to ask.

Now, let’s talk food. The Sauerbraten? Absolute perfection; tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The brats and wurst were spot on, with plenty of sauerkraut on the side.

The Hofbrau was cold, crisp, and hit the spot, and their bar’s got some awesome beer steins that give the place some real character.

Pro tip: Make a reservation. This place gets packed, and for good reason. Great food, great service, and a laid-back vibe. I’ll definitely be back, Prost 🍺😎"

"If you're considering The House of Gerhard based on its reputation as the "best" German restaurant in town, don't be fooled. It's only the best because it’s the only German restaurant here—and that’s not saying much.

Five of us were severely disappointed. Multiple people ordered the Schnitzel, one of their so-called specialties. The breading was as hard as cement, and the meat was so dry and tough it was nearly impossible to cut, let alone chew. It’s clear that meat wasn’t freshly prepared, and if it was "fried in butter," it must’ve been during a previous lifetime because none of us could tell. One person ordered the White Fish - It was overcooked, flavorless, dry, and very disappointing.

At $30 a plate, you’d expect quality, or at least food you can chew. Instead, we got overpriced, inedible meals. Drinks, thankfully, were great (props to the bartender 😉), but the service was just average.

Bottom Line: Don’t believe the hype. If you're after a good meal, you’ll want to look elsewhere. The prices here are high, and the food quality is LOW. The only reason I gave this place 1 ⭐️, is because 0 isn’t an option."

"Vintage, nostalgic restaurant that specializes in the best of traditional German food. The staff is dressed "in character" and it's just an unexpectedly fun place! The owners are kind and engaging. We would definitely go back!"
