Cruze Farm Ice Cream - Downtown Knoxville

The throwback vibe at this downtown creamery—complete with staff wearing signature red-and-white checkered blouses—makes ordering a cookies-and-cream shake feel like the wholesome Americana it should be. Ice-cream flavors are simple and straightforward—sweet cream, chocolate, strawberry—but do include dairy-free options like raspberry Dole Whip. Long lines form by 7 pm most evenings.

Opened just off Market Square in August 2018, Cruze Farm Ice Cream swirls milk and cream from the family-owned dairy into decadent soft-serve in flavors such as chocolate, lavender honey, and blackberry. With servers sporting red-gingham dresses, kerchiefs, and bright-red lipstick, the shop’s retro vibes make it one of the city’s most Instagrammable spots.

I’ve mostly tried to stick to small one-shop operations here, but Cruze Farm is just too good to leave off the list. With four different locations around East Tennessee (not including the farm itself, which is its own attraction), there’s a good chance you can find your way to one if you’re on the hunt for some locally-sourced ice cream. The flavors change daily; last time I went in (at the Downtown Knoxville location), I went for a simple lemon cone, but there are plenty more flavors and toppings to choose from.

Make a stop at Cruze Farm Ice Cream (also the milk we use in all of our drinks at K Brew), then make the half-mile walk to World’s Fair Park, home of the 1982 World’s Fair. We recommend pulling up some of the photos of the fair on your phone to compare to the modern site – time has changed much of the park, but many original elements are there. If the weather is nice, soak up some rays on the Great Lawn, next to the fountain circle that shoots water 20ft into the air.

From the delicious soft serve offered at Cruze Farm, the unique homemade scoops at Sugar Queen Creamery, and the darling atmosphere and affogato to die for at The Phoenix Pharmacy…it’s all too good not to share.
