Reviews Summary

Emilia is celebrated for its exquisite handmade pastas and standout desserts like the unforgettable Butterscotch Budino. Diners praise the attentiveness of servers, creating a delightful dining experience. However, some reviews mention dishes being overly salty and a concerning incident regarding payment processing when the card reader was down.

"Emilia’s, Thank you!
Dinner was sublime!
We were immediately & professionally greeted with kindness and sat by the hostess.
The Artichoke Fritti, Arugula Salad & Sea Scallops w/ Risotto were cooked to perfection. Exquisite.
Our dessert was 100% on point. We had the Butterscotch Budino, which we washed down with a beautiful, freshly made Latte.
The Butterscotch was the star of this dessert (which is a rarity to find) and it rendered me absolutely speechless.
Right now, a small smile comes across my face just thinking about this wondrous dessert.
Utterly delicious.
I know I’ll probably be thinking about this remarkable Butterscotch dessert throughout this upcoming week and probably until I visit Emilia’s again soon. Yes, must be very, very soon.

Krista was our server and the service she provided from beginning to end was nothing short of perfection, as well.
She timely, quitely & subtly (without any interruption) serviced our every need. After ordering our appetizers, entrees and a bottle of Moscato wine, we didn’t need for anything. Fantastically done, Krista.
It was a very pleasant and wonderful evening! Cheers to Emilia’s!"

"Easy drinks, great food. The Gnocchi Amatriciana was heaven-sent. We had a gracious and entertaining server. However, the lighting was a smidge too dim and the music too low. The air was also a bit smoky. That said, we will return here for future meals."

Montrell Ferguson

"We came to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Our server, Patrick, was great. Very attentive and offered great recommendations. The atmosphere was chill/relaxed as we came right when they reopened at 5PM. Unfortunately, we found a gnat in my husband’s beer and a hair in his pasta. Still did enjoy the food overall."

Five great Italian restaurants in the Knoxville area

I included this Market Square eatery in my first five great column back in March, which focused on downtown restaurants. I would be remiss in omitting Matt Gallaher’s latest venture from this list as well. The selections are comparatively narrower than what you’ll find in similar Italian kitchens, but the antipasti, secondi and contorni sections of the menu showcase seasonal cuisine inspired by Italy’s Emilia-Romanga region.

That philosophy shines even brighter in his Italian restaurant, Emilia, in Market Square. Carbonara ditches guanciale for the perfumed, meatier smoke of Benton's bacon, a cult favorite among the area's chefs. Focaccia comes with a side of house-made ricotta made with Cruze Farm; "Cruze Farm") milk—the local dairy you'll hear proudly name-dropped in almost every nearby restaurant.
