Reviews Summary
Sticky Rice Cafe is celebrated for its authentic Laotian and Thai cuisine, with many praising the generous portions and friendly service. Diners rave about signature dishes like the laab and mango sticky rice. However, a few negative experiences have been noted regarding hygiene and inconsistent food quality, particularly with fried items.
"stellar food! the dinner portion of my fried rice was plenty big enough, as well as big beef pieces. i finished about half, so i would recommend getting the lunch portion if you can’t eat as much! my thai tea was plenty sweet as well. :)
my only thing to note is that the parking lot is a bit small, and i wish they weren’t out of the matcha cheesecake when i went. all good things from me, though."

"Terrific restaurant. I had the beef laab. It was delicious. This is one of the most flavorful dishes I have had from any cuisine. I liked all of them. I will point out not everyone is going to like it. Lots of onions, which I love, lots of heat, which I love, lots of cilantro, which I love. Fabulous dish. One issue, I chose med. rare. Which is the best way for steak. However, in this dish I think it should be med. well. Nothing was wrong with it. It was cut into small pieces so I think it may have been better a little browner, maybe. My son had the pork, his favorite here. All portions were copious and as delicious as they were large. The leftovers were magnificent as well. It reheats perfectly."

"We went on a Wednesday evening and our party of two had to wait 20 minutes for a table. It was no problem at all—especially once the food came out, as it was well worth waiting for. The staff was super attentive and kind. I loved seeing the owners being involved in the service; it shows how much they really care, and you can see it in quality. Our appetizers couldn’t have been more than a five minute wait, and the mains didn’t take long either. Everything was delicious and the portions were just right. We don’t usually order dessert but I eyed another customer eating the mango sticky rice and it piqued my curiosity, and oh joy am I glad I indulged… Delicious. Don’t skip the mango sticky rice, folks!!! This place is truly a culinary gem of Knoxville. I will be dreaming of it while I’m away."

With more than 20 years in the Knoxville restaurant scene under her belt, Khan decided that she finally was ready to share her family’s beloved Laotian cuisine with her adopted community. With her mother, Phet (belovedly known as Mama Pat), acting as executive chef and a smattering of immediate family members running the show in the front of house, Sticky Rice has made a mark on the local restaurant scene not just due to its excellent dishes and superb service, but also because of its unique-to-Knoxville origins.

If high school geography escapes you, Laos is a Southeast Asian country sandwiched between Thailand to the west and Vietnam to the east. The north borders both Myanmar and southwest China, and its southern border is adjacent to Cambodia. Needless to say, the food is incredible, and Sticky Rice showcases it to perfection with traditional items like chicken laab with the namesake sticky rice (it’s sticky enough – and meant to be eaten with your fingers).
