When we arrived at 3:45pm, this popular restaurant had people waiting outside the front door and others were sitting on lawn chairs in the back of the restaurant. Beautiful views of the coastline and surfers are possible from the outdoor seating as well as from most of the tables inside. With an emphasis on locally-sourced fish and ingredients, I was looking forward to an upscale meal supervised by executive chef Marshall Blanchard, a Culinary Institute of America graduate.

We've probably been here 8 or 10 times over the years, and always enjoyed it. Apparently, it's under new ownership in the past few months, and the new management is trying different things. For example, to get a "front row" table for sunset - around 7:15 or 7:30 - we were told to make a 5pm reservation.

The atmosphere, sunset, and vibes of this restaurant are definitely positive. However, we found the service and food to be poor. We found a lot of people we talked to when referring us to this restaurant would say, “Oh my gosh the sunset is amazing,” but they never spoke highly of the food and service.

We had to attend a rehearsal lunch with Onie’s family and friends at The Beach House. Right beside is the Poipu Beach Park, a popular family beach fringed by palm trees and shady lawns.

Brennecke’s provides a unique opportunity to watch sea turtles in action. And by action, we mean surfin’ big kahunas!. Imagine finding Nemo surfer bro turtles, but real life.
