Lappert’s Hawaii ($) (available in Koloa, Princeville, and Hanapepe) | This is the true island dream. Lappert’s ice cream flavors are inspired by the tropical island, and churned fresh in Hanapepe. My favorites were the Nene Tracks* (vanilla ice cream + chocolate covered honey roasted almonds, cashews, peanuts, mini peanut butter cups, chocolate fudge and salted caramel) and the Kauai Pie* (Kona coffee ice cream + coconut flakes, dark chocolate fudge, hamakua macadamia nuts and vanilla cake crunch).

For the dessert portion of our list, we head back out to Hanapepe to grab a sweet treat (or two or three) at Lappert's Hawaii. A genuinely homegrown ice cream factory, Lappert's has five locations on three islands—but the real frozen magic all happens at the original Hanapepe location. Made in small batches, the ice cream and sorbet comes in a number of flavors, from the traditional (chocolate chip cookie dough) to the innovative (green tea).

Lappert’s Hawaii (which is not affiliated with Lappert’s Ice Cream on the mainland) was established in the sleepy Kauai town of Hanapepe when a successful San Francisco restauranteur decided to move to the islands. Since then, Lappert’s Hawaii has become one of the most well-known ice cream companies in Hawaii.

Shave Ice is a distinctly Hawaiian dessert that can be found at stands around the island, while Kaua`i-based Lappert’s Hawaiʻi ice cream shop is among the island’s favorite ways to stay cool. And be sure to sample fresh produce and locally made food products at Kauaʻi’s Sunshine Markets (the local name for farmers markets), held throughout the island in towns like Līhuʻe and Hanapēpē.

Lappert’s, a popular local ice cream shop with locations on Oahu, Maui, and Kauai had its origins in Hanapepe. The brainchild of a successful San Francisco restaurateur, Lappert’s was conceived after he and his wife purchased an ice cream cone on their vacation to Kauai. The ice cream tasted so awful that they threw it away and committed to making their own.

You are also about a 5 minute drive to a lovely shopping center with amazing restaurants like Merriman’, Tortilla Republic and my favorite ice cream shop- Lappert’s. No Hawaiian visit is complete until I’ve had my scoop of Heavenly Hana and Kauai Pie from Lappert’s. On seperate nights of course.

Something about the spiralized, soft goodness and nostalgia from when I worked at an Army base during high school making frozen yogurt cones.At Lappert’s, they had both pineapple and raspberry flavors. The cone isn’t vegan though. My daughter also had some chocolate and ube ice cream.

Lappert’s Hawaii has three locations on Kauai and is known for its handcrafted, small-batch ice cream. With unique flavors like Kauai Pie and Kona Coffee, Lappert’s takes your taste buds on a flavorful journey. You can always count on seasonal flavors to be available as well.

Hours: Koloa Mon-Sun 8am-9pm, Princeville Tues-Thurs 10am-6pm, Fri-Mon 10am-8pm, Hanapepe (temporarily closed). Lappert’s is one of the best local places to eat in Kauai if you are looking for a tasty treat. There are locations in Koloa, Princeville, and Hanapepe.

Lappert’s is the place to go for coffee and baked goods (or ice cream in the evening!). Ask them what coffee drink they are known for and order that. I can’t remember the exact name, but it had macadamia nut flavor and it was excellent.

The treats continued with ice cream at Lappert’s, which is the best local ice cream in Hawaii and made in Kauai!. I wanted a flavor that felt Hawaiian, so I got the Caramel Coconut Macadamia Nut, and it was creamy and delicious!

Handmade, artisan ice cream, gelato, sorbets, cookies, pastries and micro-roasted coffees with a full espresso bar. Voted “Best of Kauaʻi,” all Lappert’s products are made fresh daily in small batches right in Hanapepe.

Lappert’s Hawaii– Located in Princeville, Kalaheo, and Hanapepe. Is it bad if I told all of you that we stopped her once a day the whole time we were in Kauai. I love ice cream and so does my family.

While there, wander around the extensive farmer’s market, peruse the many boutiques and restaurants, and grab a flavor-packed scoop of ice cream from Lappert’s Hawaii.

From Lapperts having half of their flavors missing, to very lean selections at dinnertime, to some stingy syrup pours at Jojos - I felt disappointed across the board.

After, you cannot resist stopping at Lappert’s Hawaii for waffle cones. His: white chocolate macadamia nut. Hers: Auntie Lilikoi passion fruit.
