Reviews Summary
Sophy's is praised for its authentic Cambodian cuisine, friendly service, and generous portions, offering great value. While many rave about unique dishes like stuffed angel wings and beef jerky, some diners have noted concerns about hygiene and found certain dishes, like the Pad See Ewe and beef jerky, to be less flavorful or texturally disappointing. The interior could benefit from a refresh, but the welcoming atmosphere and delicious food make it a worthwhile visit.
"I have to show Sophy's some love. First time eating there with friends, we felt very welcomed from the start. We ordered several dishes, and all of them were delicious. Everyone here was so kind and generous. My favorite dish was the chicken curry. I went back to get a platter of desserts, they were high quality, fresh and so good. Will be back again!"

"Interesting dishes. Take the fried tofu, it's usually the firm or medium tofu that most restaurants fry but this one was soft. So it melts in your mouth when you bite into it. Take the Angel wing, it's not just fried chicken wings. It's chicken stuffed. My favorite is their home made beef jerky. I get it every time I'm here. Overall, interesting creative dishes, freshly made except maybe some of the soup, generous portions, and reasonably priced. I'll never understand why they give you like a whole pot of rice but I guess some people love that much rice. I don't know if this is the best Cambodian restaurant but the food tastes great."

"Super friendly and helpful staff. Always checking on us to make sure we were good.
Fresh delicious food, we have a few dishes, Phnom Phen noodles. The garlic smell was intense and made my mouth water. The meat was a little on the dry side, but it was still delicious. Hubby had the Thai beef boat noddles and he loved it. The beef jerky was good. Just a little too peppery. We also had the Asian crepe.
The space could use a refresh, but with good food and friendly service we can overlook the interiors and outside."

Jenn Harris’ review of Sophy’s: Cambodian Town Food & Music, where the beef jerky is a can’t-miss dish and her separate column on the soon-to-be 100-year-old bar Joe Jost’s, where pickled eggs line the bar, brought back memories of eating in Long Beach’s Cambodia Town back when nearly all of the restaurants serving the cuisine were almost exclusively on Anaheim Boulevard, as former Times contributor Linda Burum reported in 1990.

Contrary to what this list may lead you to believe, dips are the quintessential traditional Khmer food. On the regular, we’d have a bowl of prahok ktis or teuk kroeung with a plate of raw vegetables and tuck right in. In particular, Sophy’s prahok ktis really hits the spot.
