Reviews Summary

The Attic is lauded for its creative Southern-inspired cuisine and cozy Craftsman bungalow ambiance. Diners rave about unique dishes like the Flaming Hot Cheetos mac and cheese and the exceptionally delicious biscuits. The friendly service and generous happy hour specials also contribute to a positive dining experience. Some minor issues include occasional flies, but overall, it's a highly recommended spot.

"We found The Attic while searching for the best breakfast spots in Long Beach. It wasn’t at the very top of the list, but with thousands of positive reviews, we decided to give it a shot—and we’re so glad we did.

Located in a charming neighborhood with local shops and a great dive bar (Reno Room—definitely worth a visit after brunch), The Attic has a modern, welcoming vibe. There’s plenty of outdoor seating, a large open-air bar area, and indoor dining as well.

The menu is packed with tempting options. We ordered the Chicken and Waffles and the BEC—both were absolutely delicious. The real standout, though, was the biscuits with jam and butter. Honestly, they might be the best biscuits I’ve ever had—crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, full of flavor, and not at all dry.

To top it off, the mimosas were only $4 each and poured generously with champagne. Service was excellent: attentive, friendly, and fast.

I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Long Beach."

"Amazing!
Great service, people are really the best over there! Atmosphere is nice, I see the love that put in the place.
I stopped on Saturday for mini bites party with my fam, we were pleasantly surprised that they have Happy Hour daily and tried Mac and cheese, burgers, and the best donuts (!!!)
Everything is amazing!
Drink menu is good, we had sparkling Californian, AC/DC, espresso martini and whiskey.
I’ll be back!

P.S. they saved my purse! 😂🙏"

Diana Puzikova

"Great spot for a weekend brunch. The cheetos mac-and-cheese was amazing get it with the short rib! The restaurant made pasta was very good. My wife and I had split the Benedict with the Grit cake was a really interesting idea and we really liked the shrimp, the pork was a little all over the place taste wise. French toast was huge! We took over half of it.

Service was on point. Recommendations were good.

Flies. There were lots of flies. They have little fans but you have to ask for them.

Overall we loved this place and my wife looks forward to having brunch with her friends soon."

Best Brunch Spots in Long Beach: Where to Get Weekend Brunch in the LBC

Located in a 1920s Craftsman-style house on an unassuming corner in Belmont Heights, The Attic is owned and run by a Long Beach local since 2012. You’ll find yourself daydreaming about their rendition of Southern classics like Short Rib Poutine and traditional New Orleans beignets coated with powdered sugar, plus inspired takes like Mac & Cheese that’s topped with crumbled Flaming Hot Cheetos. Now might be a good time to sample one of their legendary cocktails, including favorites like the stacked Meaty Man, with a secret, house-made bloody mix, olives, bacon, and a short rib slider. How to order: Walk-ins welcome, order online for takeout.

Long Beach's famous Craftsman bungalows were built en masse during an oil boom a century ago, and while many have been torn down to make way for McMansions and apartment blocks, one now plays home to the Attic, which serves up some of the best Southern-style cuisine in the region. The comfort food on the all-day menu delights, from the Flaming Hot Cheetos mac and cheese (don't overthink it; just try it) to the Three Little Pigs sandwich. Daily happy-hour specials serve as an "intermission" between lunch and dinner offerings.

Essential Long Beach restaurants to kick off 2022

I once had the audacity to call this now stellar restaurant “overrated” in a tongue-in-cheek post that was meant to drive Long Beach out of its toxic positivity: Not everything can be spectacular—and that is okay. Of course, I naively dismissed the humility that was brewing on the other side: Attic owner Steve Massis was distressed and unsatisfied—an aspect of the food world we rarely discuss publicly—and had to make an extremely difficult choice: To override guaranteed, Instagrammable Brunch Mayhem success and go back to his roots of creating a food destination that honors gastronomy but still remains “pretty food.”. That kind of step isn’t just difficult—to look at something that ain’t financially broken, which is one of the hardest things to achieve in the first place when it comes to the food industry—but definitely worthy of praise.

Where to find the best Caesar salad in Long Beach

A wildly popular Southern restaurant in a Craftsman bungalow, The Attic on Broadway could probably get away without offering a Caesar — the Caesar, after all, is from Southern California, not the Deep South. But many needs are cared for here. And so, amidst the shrimp & grits and jambalaya, there’s a Caesar, made with hearts of romaine (makes it that much crispier) and a classic Caesar dressing — but given a Southern fillip with fried anchovies, and well-spiced “Mama’s croutons.” Which match very nicely with the buttermilk fried chicken, cooked just the way buttermilk fried chicken is everywhere you go below the Mason-Dixon.
