Reviews Summary

Providence offers an exceptional fine-dining experience with impeccable service and a focus on innovative seafood dishes. Diners rave about the artful presentation, the commitment to sustainability, and the overall luxurious atmosphere. While the portions can be small, the multi-course tasting menu ensures a satisfying and memorable meal for special occasions.

"WOW OMG WOW OMG WOW OMG WOW !!!

From the moment we entered this outstanding restaurant we were captivated by caring staff, zen like ambiance & some of the best food in the world. Superlatives would spring forth with every bite taken into each & every dish we consumed. We were truely amazed & full of gratitude.

Having been fortunate over the decades to have eaten in some of the world’s best restaurants, this restaurant was a highly successful stand out of pure perfection on a plate, from preparation to presentation.

Our celebratory evening with our son was a truely memorable event thanks to all the staff involved. We normally don’t take photos at restaurants but felt compelled on this occasion to capture the sensational attention to detail in every serving.

Finally, to be invited back of house into the kitchen to meet with the head chef & legion of staff preparing our food & to be able to provide them first hand with the praise they richly deserve was also a privilege.
.
THANK YOU ALL FOR CREATING MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME !!"

"The food was great, but the portions were extremely small—which is to be expected at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Each course was beautifully presented, but the bites were so tiny that it felt more like a tasting experience than an actual meal. You do get a lot of courses, though, so you won’t leave starving—but you also won’t leave feeling full.

The dishes themselves were hit or miss. Some were absolutely amazing, while others felt unnecessarily experimental and honestly just kind of strange. The cheese add-on was definitely the standout—I’d highly recommend adding it if you go.

Overall, Providence is a place I think is worth trying once for a special occasion, especially if you’re into fine dining experiences and don’t mind adventurous flavors. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was elegant but not stuffy. That said, for the price point, I wouldn’t go back. It’s a one-time experience for me."

"I had a great dining experience at Providence. The seafood was amazing. They showcase the best of California. I enjoyed the abalone, scallop, spotted prawns, and mango dessert. The wine list is impressive. The electric margarita is delicious. Service is attentive."

38 Best Restaurants in Los Angeles for Street Tacos, California Cuisine, and Flawless Omakase

One of LA's longest-standing fine dining restaurants reopened in May 2023 with a sophisticated new look, and a Green Michelin star to add to its accolades. Walking in from busy Melrose Ave, diners are gently transported to an underwater world thanks to hand-finished Venetian plaster walls in an ombre effect of tidal greens and blues, carpeting that evokes wave ripples, and a hand-blown glass installation (Sea Clouds by Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert) above the dining room that could be reminiscent of air bubbles floating to the surface. An advocate of sustainable seafood, chef Michael Cimarusti's ever-evolving tasting menu proudly showcases the herbs and flowers his team grows in the rooftop garden, which is also home to two beehives.

Best Seafood Restaurants in LA: Enjoy Sushi, Poke, and More

It is no coincidence that one of the best fine dining restaurants in LA—and one of the best restaurants, period—is intensely focused on seafood. And not just any seafood, but sustainable, ethical, wild-caught seafood sourced from both local waters and abroad. Chef Michael Cimarusti and his team treat their fish with sophisticated techniques and elevated presentations that highlight the quality product instead of obscuring it, showcasing those beautiful sea creatures throughout the vaunted two Michelin-starred tasting menu.

A three Michelin star fine dining institution offering the freshest seafood available and all the bells and whistles of a modern white tablecloth experience. This is Michelin-level luxury in the eyes of chef-owner Michael Cimarusti and co-owner Donato Poto, who ensures all diners receive a warm—and unstuffy—welcome. Why we love it: For nearly two decades, the restaurant has won over scores of critics, Michelin inspectors and repeat visitors—and the artful eight-course dinner menu ($325) still remains impressive today.

Eating at Providence is an event—you’ll be there for at least three hours experiencing one of their multi-course tasting menus. Critic's list: Best seafood and sushi restaurants in L.A.

Providence is a local and national benchmark of white-tablecloth extravagance, rightly famed for Michael Cimarusti’s luxury coddling of seafood. His cooking is less about fireworks and drama and more about technique in pursuit of clarity: Even if frothy corn sauce and fermented radish surround king crab, or truffles and pancetta scent a Hokkaido scallop, it’s the taste of the ocean that long stays in the memory. If you desire, white truffles will rain down over risotto or golden scrambled eggs; cocktails can be made tableside; and a sommelier might arrange a parade of wine pairings that costs nearly as much as the tasting menu, which is $295 per person.

25 great wine bars and wine restaurants in Los Angeles 2025

Los Angeles is a city famously short on truly fancy, dress-up-and-splurge fine dining restaurants, though whenever such a statement is uttered, it’s generally quickly qualified by something like, “except Providence.” For nearly 20 years, Chef Michael Cimarusti and Co-Owner (and front-of-house wizard) Donato Poto have been among the very few restaurateurs in LA – even, at times, the only ones – executing the type of grown-up fine dining found in other cities across the globe. With two Michelin stars at its back, Michael Cimarusti’s Providence easily ranks as one of L.A.’s best. The prix-fixe menu revolves around Cimarusti’s deep love for the sea, and the provenance of the fish on the menu is clearly-defined: There’s down-home “chowda,” lobsters from Maine, coho salmon from the Olympic peninsula, and a smattering of exotics, like ikura, uni, and razor clams. Meanwhile, the quietly-fancy space feels like it could double as the dining room of an opulent ocean liner.
