While many praise the friendly service and unique flavors, some diners have found certain dishes disappointing or not as advertised. It's a beloved local spot with a long history, known for its blend of Japanese and Thai influences.
"First time trying this place. Haven't had Thai cuisine since I lived in Columbus, and I must say Tokyo Alley exceeds expectations. Location is quaint, cozy, pretty easy to access. Staff is friendly from phone calls to every interaction in person. I ordered the chicken and red curry, and was blown away.
I hope this place sees more business, they DEFINITELY deserve it!! The chefs were hustling and everything was amazing. Thank you all for a wonderful first visit and likely many more to come. ☺️☺️👍🏾🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟"

"The atmosphere is inviting but the food is HORRIBLE! It took forever to be seated in an almost empty restaurant. The guy asked if I was there for a pickup order, I said no. Then he asked, "Do you want to place an order to go, to which I said no again?" I'm not sure what that was about. I was trying not to take it personally concerning all the racial tensions happening in our country. He escorted me to a table at the opening of a storage closet, like directly beside it. The menu had all these fancy titles, and I chose the Bangkok...supposedly in a red chili sauce! Imagine my horror when I saw yum yum sauce with chicken fingers! And the cold angel hair pasta passed off as noodles! The spring rolls were actually shrimp breaded. Definitely, not what's advertised."

These neighbors face each other in a gustatory alley between Mulberry and Cherry streets and are well worth seeking out. While Tokyo Alley is more generally “Asian” than real Japanese, this cozy spot is deservedly a legend in downtown. Newer Ninja is sleek and more traditionally Japanese in style, with a friendly bar and a sushi roll called the Macon.
