Reviews Summary

Nobu Malibu is celebrated for its breathtaking ocean views and celebrity sightings, creating a truly luxurious dining experience. While the food is generally praised for its exquisite flavors and presentation, particularly signature dishes like the Black Cod Miso, some find the portions small for the high price point. Service can be exceptional, though occasional negative experiences with staff attitude or dish timing have been noted.

"It is a beautiful place with a very beautiful view and a lot of seating outdoors and indoors. The staff are very friendly and they have been very nice in changing our reservation time for an hour later. I really liked the food and specially the side dish that was okra ( look for more specific name on the menue😃 as I already put the hint 😄). I liked the food too and enjoyed the vibe a lot. For the parking you have to pay 15$ so you can carpool for saving money and the environment. 😊"

"Pro tip: sushi is fantastic but get a hot main entree, especially the black cod miso.

We had a good time and food was fantastic. However, there was one and sort of big issue for me - we were seating outside by the deck, somewhat near the fireplace - and there goes one of the employees deciding to mess up with the fireplace, which with the wind blowing got our table completely covered with ash, I mean even our drinks and some food. Even as we politely (perhaps too politely) asked them to at least clean our table properly, nobody said anything or even apologized."

G. R.

"Lunch with a view! Every dish was beautifully executed—flavourful, well-seasoned, and thoughtfully plated. The sauces and spices added depth without overpowering the natural flavour and freshness of the fish.

Portions are on the smaller side, so you’ll likely need several dishes to feel full. Guests can easily spend $100+ per person, without drinks. Worth it for the quality and experience, but good to know in advance."

22 Best Japanese Restaurants in Los Angeles for Sushi and Beyond

Best for: New-school sushi (and ambience)While Nobu Matsuhisa's eponymous chain restaurant is nothing new—his new-school Japanese food is now a global phenomenon—the Malibu outpost is a sight to behold, with a minimalist, zen-meets-the-Pacific space, plenty of opportunities for celebrity-spotting and an oceanside setting that leaves diners speechless, especially after dark. Though purists might roll their eyes, the eye-poppingly expensive fare still delivers on flavor and delight, from the mini tacos filled with creamy uni to the signature yellowtail jalapeño sashimi. Time Out tip: Though the perpetually fully booked restaurant offers reservations through OpenTable, the best move is to call 30 days in advance—Nobu Malibu still holds the majority of tables for phone calls.

Malibu Beach Inn – Hotel Review

After Malibu Beach Inn’s sale in 2015 to property investors Mani Brothers, the hotel underwent a comprehensive renovation at the hands of interior designer Waldo Fernandez (who also designed Nobu Ryokan Malibu down the road). Fernandez had almost everything purpose-built in the LA area, prioritizing both contemporary style and comfort. With the redesign also came a concerted rebranding into the kind of inviting luxury that sets the property apart from the Nobus and Soho Houses it neighbors.

Malibu's Best Restaurants in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is where it all began for Nobu Matsuhisa, the acknowledged king of Japanese cuisine, who now has high-end eateries all over the world. His first restaurant, Matsuhisa, is a tiny place on La Cienega Boulevard; Nobu Los Angeles is further north up that same street; and the prettiest of them all, Nobu Malibu, is perched right on the sand on Pacific Coast Highway in the heart of that posh beach community. Malibu gets our vote for the best of three solely on location, for the gorgeous ocean views and sleek restaurant design somehow make Nobu's signature dishes like Black Cod Miso and Yellowtail with Jalapeno seem even more delicious when eaten there (and they are seriously fantastic no matter where you taste them).
