Reviews Summary

Hog & Hominy is praised for its delicious and authentic Neapolitan pizzas, as well as its innovative Italian-meets-Southern cuisine. While the food and atmosphere are generally well-loved, some diners note inconsistencies in service and find certain items, like cocktails or a specific burger, to be just average or overpriced.

"Loved our dining experience at Hog & Hominy! We dined here for dinner over the weekend and had a great experience. We ordered the John T. burger, the Thunderbird pizza, and the Mikey Likes It pizza. Everything we ordered was flavorful and delicious. We were there on a Friday evening. It was busy, but we still felt well attended to while dining here. Our waiter was very helpful with the menu, and our order came out within a reasonable amount of time. I highly recommend Hog & Hominy!"

"Drinks are absolutely the highlight here. It’s a great shareable menu and some great new finds like artichokes and wedge salad was amazing. Pig ears are a must try and all Incan compare them too is buffalo wings marries crispy bacon. The pizza was delicious as well. The crab claws were not my favorite but still had good flavor just not my texture for crab. The Brussels on top were crispy but became soggy as we got down to the middle so would love a bit more consistency there."

Denise Chernoff

"Finally had the chance to try Hog & Hominy, and the food was absolutely delightful. While the small bottled Coke was a bit pricey at $4, the laid-back atmosphere made the experience enjoyable and worth it.

The service, however, could use some improvement. Despite that, I look forward to coming back and exploring more of their menu."

Best Pizza in Memphis: Pizza Shops With the Best Slices in the City

Neapolitan-style pizza in trendy digs Thanks to James Beard award-winning chefs Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman, Hog & Hominy delivers a taste of Italy to your table with the city’s most authentic Neapolitan pizza. Its margherita is likely the best in Memphis, with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil leaves. The chewy, lightly charred crust can easily be overwhelmed by some of the heavier toppings, but the flavors and textures work so you'd be hard pressed to actually find something to complain about.

Hog and Hominy is the second venture of chefs Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman, local Memphians who hail from large Italian families. A favorite among stylish, young professionals, this restaurant is a place to see and be seen, as well as try innovative food and drinks. You can’t go wrong with anything wood-fired here, from the oysters to the pizza (Thunderbird! Forty Twice! is topped with fontina, mozzarella, calabrese and spicy honey).

Best Memphis Lunch Restaurants: Top 10Best Restaurant Reviews

The more casual brainchild of young chefs Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman, Hog & Hominy is a tribute to the pair's roots - both Southern and Italian. The result is a mix of vegetable dishes, pork-focused main dishes and wood-fired pizzas " all set in a super-casual atmosphere yet with refined service. Located just across from their namesake Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen on Brookhaven Circle, H&H, like it's sister restaurant, is housed in a former ranch-style residence. Walls have been moved and opened up to create an active space - and a wall of windows infuses the dining room with light. The bricks from from old chimney found new life as the brick oven, and colorful metal chairs add pops of color to the open dining space. Outside, there's not only a nice patio for al fresco dining - there's a bocce court. My Italian ancestors are rejoicing. Sally's expert tip: The combination of toppings on the pizzas are true genius - so we discourage you from asking for substitutions.

48 Hours in Memphis

Have a late lunch at Hog & Hominy, where childhood friends Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman serve a tasty mashup of Italian-meets-Southern-style cooking. The 50s-era ranch house has a sleek modern interior with an open kitchen that dishes out buzzed-about favorites including a fried-egg-topped “red eye” pizza and a beef-and-cheddar hot dog served on a toothsome pretzel bun. Afterward, ambitious diners can try to work off the calories at the restaurant’s own bocce ball court.

A Local’s Guide to Culinary Greats

Memphis wouldn’t be the same without Hog & Hominy, a playful Italian-Southern hybrid. The red-eye gravy gnocchi and the wood-fired pizzas are fan favorites, but the dessert—olive oil cake with mascarpone—is the real dark horse. This is a city well-versed in modern takes on Southern ingredients, but the pizza pies and composed plates like shrimp and grits at Hog & Hominy are simply some of the best examples of what Memphis does best.
