Although you can’t go wrong by selecting any of Milwaukee’s Bartolotta Family restaurants, our personal favorite is Ristorante Bartolotta. Located in the quaint village of Wauwatosa just outside of downtown Milwaukee, Ristorante Bartolotta is the flagship restaurant for Joe Bartolotta. Menu favorites include any of Bartolotta’s hand-made pastas such as Pappardelle al Ragu d’Anatra, a hand-cut Tuscan ribbon pasta tossed with a traditional slow-braised duck ragu, or any of their seafood dishes such as Grigliata Mista di Mare, a seaside-style assortment of grilled seafood.

One of the most well-known and best Italian restaurants in Milwaukee, Ristorante Bartolotta dal 1993, is nestled in the quaint Wauwatosa Village and has been serving up authentic Italian cuisine since the 90s as the flagship Bartolotta Restaurant. Each dish at Ristorante Bartolotta is crafted and served with care by their well-trained team and diners will feel doted upon throughout their dining experience here. Definitely one of the more high-end options on our list, Ristorante Bartolotta makes an excellent choice for a special occasion or date night.

State St. Built by The Pabst Brewing Co. in 1902 as the Charles Jacobus Saloon, Zimmermann notes that the triangular, battlemented building, which looks like a mini-castle, was constructed of cream city brick by mason Fred Yahle. It’s not only the Pabst logo at the top that links it to the Captain’s brewery. The bulk of the Pabst brewery buildings were Gothic in style, or as in the case of the Jefferson School, were retrofitted in Gothic clothing once purchased by Pabst.

Milwaukeeans are very familiar with the Bartolotta Restaurants, and Ristorante Bartolotta dal 1993 located in downtown Tosa is widely recognized as their flagship location. Not straying from its Italian menu, the three-course Easter brunch at Ristorante Bartolotta includes antipasti for starters (such as burrata, calamari or wood-roasted veal meatballs in tomato sauce); pastas, surf and turf and egg dishes for the main course (risotto, salmon, frittata and beef filet with a side of scrambled eggs are three of the choices), and five different Italian desserts. Crespella alla Nutella and Tiramsu are two of the sweet selections.

The Bartolotta restaurant group has a small empire of restaurants in the Milwaukee area, including great seafood and steak restaurants. However, their flagship restaurant is Ristorante Bartolotta, a cozy Italian restaurant in a historic building located in Wauwatosa, just west of downtown. Many people would say it is the best Italian restaurant in Milwaukee for serving up simple yet incredibly tasty dishes that are certain to impress.

A three-course brunch awaits at Ristorante Bartolotta in Wauwatosa, with a luxury lineup featuring three-course options, including a menu for kids 12 and under. The prices vary depending on your course of choice but highlights mains like the uova alla benedettina, raviolo di caciotta con sugo, or for the little ones, toast alla francese (French toast), to name a few. The prolific Bartolotta Restaurants group now owns or operates more than a dozen places, but its first is still my favorite, Ristorante, in the heart of Wauwatosa. Chef Juan Urbieta is a master of Italian cooking, whether it’s pastas, fish or meat. The standing menu changes little from year to year, and sometimes I want nothing more than Ristorante’s perfectly crisp chicken, roasted in the Tuscan style.

Set in charming Wauwatosa, to the west of downtown Milwaukee, Ristorante Bartolotta is one of the best remaining examples of a Pabst tied house, complete with the logo on the building. It's been an Italian restaurant since 1993, honored with a Wine Spectator award for its wine offerings.

And in Wauwatosa, just an 8-minute drive from the ballpark, 30 year-old Ristorante Bartolotta still sets the standard, transporting guests to one of the regions of Italy each night. Paul Bartolotta cooked at Chicago’s Spiaggia decades ago; he says his family’s tiny restaurant set a standard long before there was serious interest in food here.

Ristorante Bartolotta’s menu features hand-made pastas, (I especially like the Pappardelle al Ragu d’Anatra, a hand-cut Tuscan ribbon pasta tossed with a traditional slow-braised duck ragu) and seafood dishes (my favorite: Grigliata Mista di Mare, a seaside-style assortment of grilled seafood).

Ristorante Bartolotta is known for a changing menu to suit the seasons, in order to use ingredients “at the peak of their freshness, flavor, and value.” They highlight the diversity of Italian cooking, and are great at pairing wines with their special menus.

Ristorante Bartolotta has been doing special regional Italian menus, though it's pricey. For good old Italian-American, places such as Balistreri's, Tenuta's, and Tavolino are good.
