Reviews Summary

Uncle Wolfie's is lauded for its creative and delicious dishes, served in a cozy and hip tavern atmosphere. Diners rave about the unique takes on classics, friendly staff, and specialty drinks. However, some have noted long wait times and occasional issues with ambiance or cleanliness impacting the overall higher-end breakfast experience.

"This was such a great place to get brunch - even with a large group (there were 8 of us - thank you for accommodating us). We felt welcome, our server was so attentive, the food came out fast and it was super delicious. Everyone loved their dish! I’d recommend the avocado toast or the biscuits and gravy (was there cardamom in there- nice touch!) I don’t have more pics because we all ate our food too quickly!"

Tori Morrison

"Uncle Wolfie's is an unbelievably great breakfast/lunch spot! I have eaten here twice and both were wonderful experiences. My first visit a year prior in 2024, I was even lucky enough to be served by the owner himself, Wolf. I told him then and I'll say it again here, this place is something special!

They have a very interesting menu with a clash between time-tested classics as well as incredibly unique, ultra-flavorful menu items. Their food rivals the quality and flavor profile of many Michelin Guide designated or James Beard awarded restaurants, without the frills (or price tag) of a true 'fine-dining' experience. The tavern potatoes are a MUST!

The kitchen staff and service team deserve a standing ovation. They've taken an unassuming breakfast joint and turned it into a place I want to return every time I visit Milwaukee. My server/bartender [Carson] was knowledgeable, kind, and had great recommendations for me, top notch service all around!

Photos [sorry for the mid-meal quality pics] feature their crispy chili-oil fish sandwich, tavern potatoes, and chocolate chip pancakes. Be warned, they are popular and you may need to wait or go early to get a table when you want it! Already looking forward to my next visit to Wolfie's!"

Ryan Cecala

"Wow. The atmosphere, the food, the drinks and very friendly staff. The food was perfection. I had the steak burrito in a bowl and my partner had the biscuits and gravy. The coffee was so good, the bloody was fantastic! We will be back!"

A Weekend Travel Guide to Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Our poor server at Uncle Wolfie’s Breakfast Tavern—we had to ask her to come back to take our order like five times. And not because she was being pushy or rushing us along, but because I was craving just about everything on the menu and was in a full-on crisis. It had already been quite the journey to get here, as Uncle Wolfie’s is about a twenty-minute walk from downtown, and we’d waited for about an hour before our seats were ready (the place is popular!).

In Brewers Hill, this always-hopping brekkie bar adds panache to its plates. The Big Wolf Breakfast – “Wolf” is co-owner Wolfgang Schaefer – is its take on a basic egg-toast-meat combo with tasty, smashed baby red potatoes. It only gets better: johnnycakes – like a corn muffin pancake – and the Wolfundido, their version of eggs and hash, with chorizo, sweet potatoes, beer cheese and ancho-seasoned egg.

All customer MUST show their Vax card and be masked at all times. Uncle Wolfies is a hidden brunch spot, and I think that mostly has to do with the fact that it’s in a location off the beaten path compared to the popular sectors of Milwaukee, such as the east side of the third ward. It is located over on Brewer Hill and has slowly become more popular over the past few years.
