What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners consistently praise Tenant Restaurant for its intimate atmosphere and creatively executed, artfully presented six-course tasting menus. The thoughtful wine pairings and engaging service from chef-servers also receive high marks. While the intimate setting is a draw, a rare but significant negative review highlights a disturbing encounter with a co-owner, which raises concerns about customer interaction.
"I never realized how much time we spend looking at menus, debating what to order, and waiting for food--until we spent an evening at Tenant. With no menu to mull over, we were free to simply enjoy the experience. The six-course meal was abundant in flavor, each dish meticulously crafted like a piece of art. The energy and creativity poured into every course were nothing short of mind-blowing. Tenant delivers a high-class yet low-key dining experience--cozy, warm, and effortlessly refined. A must-visit for any food lover."

"We had a fantastic experience at Tenant! The six course meal was delightful - days later I’m still remembering the green sauce that had the perfect balance of vinegar and herb. We had the best halibut here - the only problem was wanting more. It was such a fun experience, the perfect mix of elegant and rustic with flavors that surprised and delighted. One suggestion: Would love to know more about the wine pairings and why the wines were chosen to pair with each course."
Terra van der Lugt
"I really enjoyed the relatively casual and intimate atmosphere here. The dining room is fairly small, and it seems that everybody is seated around the same time and served with matched pacing from one tasting menu. Quite a few of our dishes had some southern influence to them like the fried green tomato, and the cornbread/collared greens tower. Everything tasted great, and the portion sizes for each course felt just right to leave you satisfied."

Best Food in Minneapolis for Delivery & Takeout: Where to Order From Now
South MinneapolisNormally a small SoMinny space that serves a gourmet tasting menu, the restaurant has changed gears to become Tenant Soup Kitchen, focused on good soup paired with “fancy bread” for takeout. Some standouts so far include pork and navy bean, roasted cauliflower, steak and potato, and cheesy tomato. Servings are pre-bagged, feed two, and are ordered via text (612-827-8111.) During their first week, the restaurant served more than 600 guests.Hours: Tuesday-Saturday approximately noon-6pmCost: $15, but the restaurant says it’s also “pay what you can

Tenant only has 20 seats and a minimal, whitewashed interior, but your focus and attention should be on the food anyway. The ever-changing, six-course tasting menu takes a homey dish like cheese-stuffed pasta and elevates it with a filling of funky, locally-crafted Camembert-style cheese. Since chefs double as servers, the ingredients and preparation of each menu item are explained with the same level of detail as a hardcore comic fan describing the latest Marvel movie.

This chef's collective has pivoted from its usual multicourse menu format to soup. "We like making soup," said co-owner Cameron Cecchini. "We have to stay busy, and we obviously want to take care of our employees. We have a strong relationship with the neighborhood. And people like eating soup when it's cold and rainy and crazy stuff is going on." So far, the choices have included chicken-wild rice, roasted mushroom-kale, cheesy tomato and steak-potato.

Cooks from the former Piccolo have rejiggered the space as Tenant, offering small menu tastings at three ticketed seatings a night. Be ready for a focused tasting menu that may be the most economical of its type in town: $50 for a six-course meal without beverages. The team service is fun and informative, and while the menu changes all the time, return diners will notice a fondness for heritage wheat pastas.

Our apologies to those in-the-know, but we’re about to spill the secret of Tenant. This diminutive chef-driven restaurant is cheekily named: the team rents the space from Beard-winning chef Doug Flicker, whose lauded Piccolo used to occupy the building. On Tuesday through Saturday, Tenant serves a seasonal six-course tasting menu at two seatings, hand-delivered by the chefs who prepared it.
14 Best Date Night Restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul
I’m hesitant about putting Tenant on this list, but it’s making the cut for the experience, location, and service alone. Like Owamni, Tenant is one of those “blink-and-you-miss-it” reservations. I can’t even tell you how many table alerts from Resy I missed out on before finally managing to snag one (on my birthday, no less).

Tenant is a smaller restaurant with a constantly changing chef’s course menu. The menu usually contains handmade fresh pasta, a slow-cooked soup, and local meats. You can also order a wine pairing with the tasting, or order a la carte.

It doesn’t get much more intimate than Tenant, which seats only about a dozen at a time for a seasonally changing, six-course tasting menu. You won’t find a cozier place for a birthday dinner in Minneapolis.

Our last meal at Tenant didn’t get us very excited but we enjoy their playful menu surprises enough to try to go back at least twice a year.
