Reviews Summary

Diners rave about Bob's Downtown Restaurant's hearty, home-style Southern cooking, with the French toast frequently highlighted as a standout. The cozy, old-school diner atmosphere and friendly service add to the charm, though some reviews mention a decline in food quality and a need for better cleaning.

"My wife and I spent a Saturday in Mobile and we stayed the night also. We were going to drive back home on Sunday so she said, “Let’s go get a good breakfast before we hit the road.” I searched restaurants and this one had really good reviews. My wife really likes French toast so she ordered the Colonel’s French Toast and she said it was the best French toast that she’s ever had. I ordered the Julie’s Breakfast and it was really good as well. We were very happy that we gave Bob’s a try and we’ll definitely be back on our next visit to Mobile."

"Stopped here on our way to FL from Texas. It's in a cute trendy part of downtown Mobile AL and it's a funky little diner. Even though it was 11am on a Saturday morning we were able to get a spot for 5 in under 20 minutes. Kids enjoyed their chicken strips and fries, my oldest had French Toast and they top it with a lot of butter! Shrimp and grits were ok, bloody Mary was ok."

Ashlee Holmes

"Nice small cozy place in the middle of downtown Mobile. Alabama service is outstanding. Food is pretty darn good too. They have optional seating outside or inside. Seafood gumbo is pretty darn tasty. The burgers are excellent. The services true Southern hospitality, smiles and laughter all through the building.
Don't forget to sneak around back of the building and get your photo with the wings painted on the back door"

Mobile’s best breakfast: Our top 5

I love a funky diner, and that’s just what you’ll find at Bob’s, located “at the corner of Fat Street and Happy Avenue,” as chef/owner Tony Sawyer likes to say. Bob’s is actually at the corner of St. Francis and North Jackson streets, just slightly off the beaten path in downtown Mobile. Diners sit at the bar or around the walls of the restaurant, looking out the windows at the goings-on; when the weather is nice, there’s alfresco seating on the sidewalk out front.
