Reviews Summary

The Sardine Factory offers a luxurious dining experience with attentive service and a beautiful ambiance, particularly in the conservatory. While many rave about the exquisite seafood and steaks, some reviews mention that the high prices may not always align with the perceived Michelin-star quality, and a few diners have encountered less-than-ideal service experiences. Despite the price point, the memorable occasions celebrated here are frequently highlighted.

"The sardine factory is incredible. One of the best meals we have ever had. We came to celebrate our 4 year anniversary and we couldn’t have picked a better spot. The atmosphere in the greenhouse was tranquil and bright. The food was unmatched. We love seafood! Jose was an incredible server. A+ all around. Highly recommend if you want a luxurious evening out."

Rachel Young

"It was a spontaneous visit, but I already have the desire to come back for more!
We got Attentive and welcoming service.
The place is transporting you right to the Bohemian restaurant in the heart of Europe. We adore sitting indoors as much as an outdoor mansard.
And speaking food-wise. Ah! Every dish was freaky dame, delicious and perfectly combined to deliver the best tasting experience! Thank you, and see you soon again!"

Vladislava Kursheva

"We had an exceptional experience at the Sardine Factory! Don was attentive and Pedro made sure our table stayed cleaned and cups refreshed. The lobster with stuff crab had me tickled with joy! My husband had the rib eye and ate eagerly and quietly as he stuffed it down. We also loved the escargot as it melted in our mouth. This was our 20yr wedding anniversary and it was perfect! Can't wait to come back 🙏"

The 23 Best Restaurants In Monterey - Monterey

Just about everything at The Sardine Factory is over the top, from the high-backed monogrammed velvet chairs and an array of sconces and tassels right down to the enormous prawn cocktail, which arrives at your table surrounded by a cloud of dry ice vapor. The classic steakhouse menu is on the fancy side, but not fussy, and most importantly, the food is top-notch. The clam chowder is herby and full of cherrystones, in a tomato-cream base that blends the best parts of New England and Manhattan styles, and the don’t-skip wagyu bavette steak is textbook charred and topped with crispy onions.

Why Cannery Row in Monterey Is the Perfect Place for a Romantic Getaway

The great American novelist John Steinbeck is credited with giving Cannery Row its fame. Steinbeck, who grew up in nearby Salinas and lived in Pacific Grove, was enthralled by Cannery Row’s early heyday–it was called Ocean View Avenue back then — when fishmongers, bordellos and flophouses occupied the area. Steinbeck’s fascination with the characters working and living there led him to write his 1945 award-winning classic, Cannery Row.

Signature cocktails (like the Pink Sardine) served at a bar as classic as its barkeep “Big Mike” Kolpazik are key (note: BMK is on IR), as are different nooks bordered by wrought-iron partitions. A double happy hour (5-6:30pm, 9:30-10:30pm) helps, as do small plates to further warm the belly, including stuffed mushrooms and legendary abalone bisque. The final touch: the talented David Conley on piano 7:30-10:30pm Tuesday-Saturday.
