Just about everything at The Sardine Factory is over the top, from the high-backed monogrammed velvet chairs and an array of sconces and tassels right down to the enormous prawn cocktail, which arrives at your table surrounded by a cloud of dry ice vapor. The classic steakhouse menu is on the fancy side, but not fussy, and most importantly, the food is top-notch. The clam chowder is herby and full of cherrystones, in a tomato-cream base that blends the best parts of New England and Manhattan styles, and the don’t-skip wagyu bavette steak is textbook charred and topped with crispy onions.

We loved our time at the Tickle Pink Inn, this was our second stay at this beautiful property with so many nice amenities and spectacular views of the coastline. We didn't do the tour at Tor House, but did go by to see it for the first time, I would love to take the tour here sometime!

We recently dined at Citronelle at Carmel Valley Ranch, the food here is excellent and the ambiance very nice. In the Carmel Highland's area, Pacific's Edge has beautiful views and gourmet food, it is pricey, tho.

The great American novelist John Steinbeck is credited with giving Cannery Row its fame. Steinbeck, who grew up in nearby Salinas and lived in Pacific Grove, was enthralled by Cannery Row’s early heyday–it was called Ocean View Avenue back then — when fishmongers, bordellos and flophouses occupied the area. Steinbeck’s fascination with the characters working and living there led him to write his 1945 award-winning classic, Cannery Row.

Despite a two-hour flight delay and only making my connecting flight with seven minutes to spare, I arrived on Thursday evening where we were taken to the best restaurant in Monterey, The Sardine Factory.

The Sardine Factory and Seventh & Dolores Steakhouse have turned their parking lots into dining rooms. Ditto for Seaside’s Gusto, which has sought to recreate the same indoor experience outside.

Local sites featured in the film include: the Sardine Factory on Cannery Row, Big Sur, Highway 1, and the Monterey Municipal Wharf in a restaurant now called the Sandbar & Grill.

The second best seafood restaurant in Monterey is The Sardine Factory. Do not let the name fool you, as this place has much more than sardines.
