What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Boon Fly Café is celebrated for its charming farmhouse vibe and standout dishes, particularly its signature donuts and corned beef hash. While many praise the fresh, farm-to-table ingredients and attentive service, some diners find the prices high and have experienced inconsistencies in food quality or slow service during peak times.
"Boon Fly has a lot of hype and high-ish prices to live up to. For us it definitely cleared that bar. Visiting mid week late morning there were still no tables available (only a 20 min wait) but plenty of spaces at the bar which was fine for us. Service was great, incredibly fast. Only gripe was The bar area was really cold for some reason. We went with the Corned Beef Hash and Fried chicken and waffles, the Corned Beef was perfect and one of the best I have had anywhere in the world. The fried chicken was a little dry ( possibly reheated 😬) still good though we ate it up. If you can make it in mid week or have time for the average 1-2 hour wait on weekends this place deserves the hype and worth high-ish prices. Pro tip parking is to the left as you enter seems a little far from the restaurant but that's the correct place."

"Excellent on-site restaurant! As Carneros guests, this was a perfect option for the convenience & taste.
We ordered the Kobe Beef Burger & Halibut. Well-executed medium rare cook on the burger. Also loved the cook & seasoning on the Halibut. Had a nice crisp on the outside, yet wasn’t dry.
Fast & attentive service!"

"The food and service were great. I had the "best coffee ever" drink, yum-yum if you like a bit of alcohol with your coffee. For my brunch meal, I had the corn beef hash and a single pancake. The food was great, tasty and overall delicious. It was plentiful. With all that, expect a wait if you don't have reservations. Regardless, it is all worth it."

A Complete Guide to Visiting Napa Valley with Kids
Whether you’re stopping in for the daily brunch (make sure to get the doughnuts) or are grabbing some dinner, Boon Fly Café’s Southern-influenced menu features something both adults and kids will love—and being housed in a red barn adds to the charm. Iconic Itineraries: Five Perfect Days in California Wine Country
To fortify yourself for the afternoon's two tastings, retrace your route back to Highway 121 and turn left into the Carneros Inn's second entrance for a quick lunch at its Boon Fly Café (707-299-4870; entrées, $11–$18), a barn-red roadhouse serving elegant sandwiches. Pay your check by 1:45 and head to your two o'clock appointment at Bouchaine Winery (1075 Buchli Station Rd.; 707-252-9065; bouchaine.com), a classic Carneros chardonnay and pinot maker in the part of the valley known as the flatlands, where rolling fields of vines stretch in every direction. In contrast to the rather formal tone at Artesa, where a recording of chanting monks plays constantly in the barrel room, Bouchaine doesn't take itself too seriously. Here the background music for your tasting is a local radio station, and the staff might describe a wine as "growing fuzz on your toenails." Like many wineries, Bouchaine will waive your tasting fee if you make a purchase.

For brunch, I’m fond of Boon Fly Cafe, tucked in a somewhat out of the way location on Highway 12 (the highway that connects Napa and Sonoma) at the fancy Carneros Inn. Undeniably, the Carneros AVA is one of the easiest areas to plan a day trip to, since it’s just about an hour north of the Bay Area. It straddles Sonoma and Napa, so you do get a bit of both. I’d start at Donum, a winery that also offers daily tours of their seriously impressive sculpture garden (see video).
