What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners praise Bad Idea for its unique Laotian-French fusion cuisine and stunning ambiance within a converted church, highlighting the exceptional wine list. While many find the food inventive and flavorful, some note the high price point and small portion sizes. The service is consistently described as attentive and knowledgeable, making for a memorable experience.
"This is a memorable dining experience. Each dish was uniquely prepared, properly seasoned, and delightfully tasty. It’s clear this place is focused on being a wine bar. All the wine we had was outstanding. However, based on the cocktail I had here, I would not order a cocktail - stick to wine. They don’t know how to mix drinks. It really is a wine bar. It’s a beautifully designed restaurant in the Lao style of wood designs on the walls. The service was excellent. Just be aware, this is expensive dining - our total bill was $302 (includes 20% gratuity). We had a shared main course, 3 small plates (as this is what’s needed to leave full), two drinks each, and a wonderful pavlova dessert, but it was outstanding Laotian cuisine."

"We went yesterday to celebrate my birthday. I had this place in my to do list for a while and I’m sure glad I finally tried it. EVERY dish we tried was very unique and DELICIOUS! It’s a mix of French cuisine with Asian, we order 4 dishes plus dessert and let me tell you I will have to go back to try everything else. And the wine was excellent too!
The only thing that doesn’t make sense to us is what’s with the restaurant’s name?! 😉"

"Service was impeccable atmosphere was incredible with the lighting, room design, bar design and architecture on point. Our server was awesome and super sweet letting us stay after we ate and making us a special drink. Food was extremely flavorful leaving little room for criticism. Some were a little over the top flavorful for my liking and the shrimp pork mix was a tad off putting in my head. Would recommend."

The concept coheres in the hands of the owner, Alex Burch, a seasoned sommelier and first-time restaurateur.

Restaurant “Bad Idea” is a Very Good Idea in Nashville
Bad Idea’s ever-changing menu is divided into two categories: nine small plates and a few of what they called, “Share-able Mains,” serving two. Fortunately, our waitress was incredibly patient and excelled in describing the dishes.
