Reviews Summary

Black's Barbecue is celebrated for its incredibly tender and flavorful brisket and standout jalapeno sausage, offering an authentic Texas BBQ experience. While many rave about the melt-in-your-mouth meats and friendly service, some diners have noted occasional dryness in the brisket and issues with excessive grease in the sausage. The sides and cobbler also receive high praise, making it a popular spot for a hearty, traditional meal.

"I am far from an expert in Texas BBQ but ate at this location as had a great experience at the Blacks in Austin. Wasn’t disappointed. Counter order sides first and the counter to pick meats. Brisket was great. Loved the sausage too. Nice casual atmosphere. Service was so friendly and welcoming. Really good experience."

"I'm from Louisiana and everytime we xome.out to visit my brother in law we MUST eat at Blacks. There BBQ brisket is unmatched crispy flavored sides of the brisket with full juicy insides! They have a variety of sides and it runs cafeteria style. You walk up start by picking your sides and what size you want then you move over to THE 🍖 MEATS! They have so many choices and it's all 😋 delicious. The brisket in general just stole me! Visit here if you get the chance. Staff members are sweet and very attentive they don't mind any questions."

"We made a stop here on our way from the Natural Bridge Caverns to Austin, and we were absolutely blown away by the flavors. Black’s is a 5th-generation family-owned barbecue joint, and you can taste the legacy in every bite.

We had the 3-meat plate with brisket, sausage, and chopped beef. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender with a perfect smoke ring and just the right fat cap. The sausage had a great snap and deep seasoning, and the chopped beef was rich, juicy, and full of smoky goodness.

For sides, we got the pinto beans and a crisp, refreshing three-bean salad that balanced the meal perfectly. Everything felt homemade and crafted with care.

Fast, friendly service and a relaxed, authentic Texas vibe made the experience even better. If you’re anywhere near New Braunfels, this place is an absolute must."

Another tried and true classic, three generations of Blacks have been serving up Central Texas-style barbecue since 1932. They feature a meat market set up, where you choose your sides and dessert before being ushered over to the holy meat cutter to make the impossible choice between nine different perfectly smoked meats, including their family’s 80-year-old handmade sausage recipe. A laid back friendly atmosphere and helpful staff ensure that you have an enjoyable time as you agonize over your choices in any one of their four Central Texas locations.

Best Restaurants in New Braunfels, TX

For an inexpensive yet finger-licking tray of Texas-style barbecue, we recommend Cooper’s Old Time Pit on the north end of town. Based on flavor, Cooper’s is easily one of the five best restaurants in New Braunfels, and it’s only minutes from our waterfront River City rentals. Cooper’s now has four locations in Texas, but that hasn’t slowed them done as they continue to sling some of the best brisket and ribs in The Lone Star State.
