Reviews Summary

Bayona is celebrated for its exquisite, innovative Louisiana fare and charming atmosphere, particularly its courtyard. Diners rave about signature dishes and excellent vegan options. However, some reviews mention inconsistent service and minor execution issues with certain dishes, although the overall consensus leans towards a highly recommended fine-dining experience.

"If you find yourself in New Orleans, you must eat at this restaurant. Bayona is a special place. This team gave me my best meal on my recent visit to the Big Easy. Colleagues of mine recommended it and I’m glad they did. The atmosphere is quaint and elevated but not stuffy. The staff are friendly, down to earth, and attentive. And the food is the shining star. Everything I ate was absolutely delicious - some of the best food I’ve ever tasted. My friend and I had a wonderful experience here and I can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend."

Brian Mills

"Excellent food. Lamb was very good and caviar on top a nice touch. My wife liked her steak! Mushroom gumbo was delicious as was the goat cheese crouton. Tasty desserts! …but why are you using imported fish at a restaurant with nearby gulf access for fish of the day?

Service was pretty atrocious. I was snapped at by the waitress for trying to order appetizers before ordering drinks. Apparently another server had to tell you about the food before you can order it. Weird, I am capable of reading and asking questions (why are their 3 servers doing random things? I think you need a lot more staff.)

Long wait times, especially to clear plates. I’m spending a couple hundred dollars on food, it would be nice not to have dirty plates on the table for extended periods of time. Honestly I’ve had better service at a Chili’s.

Lastly, it was nice to see the manager or whoever he was start to clear some plates instead of telling other guests he’s a wine expert. Weird. Get your rear in gear and help out.

Long story short, great food and poor service. I would spend your fine dining dollars elsewhere, I know I will."

Will Michel

"Wow wow wow! Best meal I had while in NOLA. I recommend the lamb loin and the duck, as well as the tomato salad. Was bummed they didn’t have the chicken liver mousse, but everything we ordered was delightful. It’s very charming and food came out quickly. Very enjoyable evening overall. Thanks for having us!"

New World" is the label Louisiana native Susan Spicer applies to her cooking style, the delicious hallmarks of which include goat cheese croutons with mushrooms in madeira cream, a Bayona specialty, and delightfully flavorful vegetable soups, like Caribbean pumpkin or cream of garlic. The imaginative dishes on the constantly changing menu are served in an early-19th-century Creole cottage that glows with flower arrangements, elegant photographs, and trompe-l'oeil murals of Mediterranean landscapes. A legendary favorite at lunch is the sandwich of smoked duck, cashew butter, and pepper jelly.

Bayona is a spot where you can get Creole dishes and linger with a couple of friends for a while and not feel like you’re part of a large march of tourists (unlike other classic spots like Galatoire's, which turn tables much faster). The courtyard, filled with plants and more cobblestones than a Roman sidestreet, is where you want to be. It feels like your own secret little garden where you can eat duck liver pate, braised rabbit, and fennel and pepper-crusted lamb loin that’s always cooked perfectly.

New Orleans is filled with too many wonderful restaurants to name them all — Gautreau’s, Restaurant August, Galatoire’s, Bayona, Brennan’s and R’evolution all came highly recommended from friends and the Soniat House concierge. However, I had my heart set on Irene’s Cuisine after I asked a friend where to go and it was the only place she suggested.
