"Such an incredible experience. The Night flows so well with all of these incredible dishes.
From the warm tea shot with mint foam to the absolutely beautiful shrimp and grits (the best I have ever had, truly incredible) and ending with the most beautiful bite of dessert - Dakar has no misses.
I feel so blessed to have had this dining experience, every single course was just perfect. The experience was amazing, meeting Chef Serigne, and getting walked through every dish, the exciting atmosphere - I was truly blown away.
Massive CHEERS to the whole team! You have something truly unique and special!"

"This was not just delicious food, it was an experience! The service was so polite, personable, and attentive. Your glass most likely won’t get to half full. The food itself was a 10/10 from start to finish. Everything wasn’t just delicious, but a work of art! I highly recommend the communal option, as you will have very cool people to talk to during your meal. I’d also like to thank the hostess for giving me these beautiful chocolates when she learned I was there for my birthday. We will definitely be returning! ❤️"

"An absolute treat. Every course was amazing. I added on the lobster, which was amazing. Participated in the communal dinner experience as a solo traveler, it was an excellent chance to talk with others. This was definitely the highlight of my NOLA trip. I would love to return to experience more menu options. I highly recommend if you love good unique foods."

26 Best Restaurants in New Orleans
Restaurants that only offer tasting menus have a historically mercurial time of things in New Orleans, many places not lasting beyond a year or so with menus on the more esoteric side. Dakar is very satisfyingly bucking this trend, perhaps due to the changing nature of the menu to reflect the seasonal produce available but almost certainly thanks to the exacting standards of Chef Mbaye’s proud celebration of West African and Senegalese dishes. Locals and visitors (as well as James Beard judges) are responding with universal enthusiasm.

Not only that, but he’s right there with you for every course, telling stories and personal anecdotes about each bowl of blue crab seafood stew or pot of jollof rice. It’s a special occasion restaurant that will probably teach you a lot, while also simultaneously being a party.

Despite the resounding influence West Africans imparted on New Orleans cuisine, few from the current diaspora have made as much of a splash as Seringe Mbaye. The young Senegalese chef weaves his heritage into dishes like soupou kanja (a gumbo thickened with okra roux brimming with seafood, Louisiana rice, and palm oil) and Akara black-eyed-pea fritters (filled with Gulf shrimp and topped with kaluga caviar). Dakar NOLA shows off the range of West African and Creole cooking, and encourages visitors to rethink any white-male-centric notions they may have of fine dining.
