Reviews Summary

Herbsaint is celebrated for its modern take on French and American cuisine, with many diners highlighting the exceptional duck confit and flavorful gumbo as must-tries. Service is consistently praised for being attentive and knowledgeable. However, some guests have noted issues with outdoor seating and the overpowering sauces on certain dishes, while a few found specific items to be too salty.

"Great service and great food.

We ordered the duck leg and wagyu bavette. My goodness one of the best duck legs I’ve had. The rice that comes along with it was amazing too. I would order it again and definitely recommend!
The wagyu bavette was also good, but not as good as the duck leg. It had good flavors and the fries that come on the side were homemade and salty. We were also given complimentary bread with very soft butter.
Lastly, we ordered the banana tart which was warm and soft and had great flavors as well.

I would definitely recommend making a reservation. We came in around 7:40pm without one and waited for 20 minutes. Not a bad wait at all but for future visits we would make a reservation."

"First time here and truly enjoyed it. The service was fantastic, we arrived five minutes early and had a drink at the bar. The food averaged at an 8.5/10 but the mushroom sauce in the chicken entree was 10/10. Don’t eat the strawberry and the fish together in the Kanpachi Crudo because the strawberries will over power the taste of the fish, but they are extremely lovely eaten separate. Low key don’t recommend for a first date solely because of the lighting (it’s like when u can see someone’s entire face of makeup on them). Def would recommend the spaghetti small plate. I liked it way more than I thought I would."

Caroline Grayson

"A good representation of a New Orleans dining experience. The standard Creole style cooking with a modern twist and variation. The Fried Green Tomatoes were a fav."

26 Best Restaurants in New Orleans

Housed in a relatively anonymous-looking building in the Central Business District, Herbsaint’s dining room is disarmingly casual and feels like a democratic venue to sample some of the city’s best food. As is the case with most well-loved New Orleans restaurants, Donald Link’s flagship shows skill with the classics, and the dirty rice and chicken, tasso, and andouille gumbo remain as popular as ever. But the Italian and French dishes on the menu will call out to you, with the gnocchi and homemade spaghetti being particularly memorable.

9 Must-Try New Orleans Dishes And Where To Taste Them

Gumbo has been documented in New Orleans since the early 1800s. According to 1885's "The Creole Cookery Book" (via Southern Foodways Alliance), the dish traditionally combined leftover hunks of meats along with various seafood options like shrimp, oyster, and crab, plus some rice. Whatever the mix, it's always packed with flavorful spices (think dark chile powder, paprika) and vegetables to deliver, as The New York Times explains, a dish that's thicker than a soup but not quite a stew.
