Reviews Summary

Bubby's is celebrated for its legendary, fluffy pancakes and generous portions of homestyle American comfort food, making it a beloved brunch destination. While the food quality and friendly service generally receive high marks, be prepared for potentially long wait times, especially on weekends. Some reviewers noted inconsistent service experiences, but the overall vibe and delicious offerings make it a worthwhile visit.

"Booked a table at Bubby’s whilst we were in New York as a friend recommended it.The food was absolutely delicious.

I had the pancakes with berry compote and the pancakes were incredibly fluffy. Despite the bigger portion size, it wasn’t too much and not too sweet which was great! My friends enjoyed the breakfast and banana pancakes.

It took a while to be seated despite having booked in advance. However, this was made up by incredibly fast service. Our food came before our drinks! I don’t think I’ve ever been served so quickly.

The restaurant was very busy so maybe not one for people looking for a quieter breakfast spot.

It is expensive in comparison to a similar meal in the UK but I would say it’s worth a visit. I wish I could get pancakes like this in Scotland ☺️"

Lily Johnston

"Tried the James Beard pancakes, specifically the Pancake Flight. This consists of three different toppings. If you are not a huge fan of sweet, then forgo this. These pancakes were thick, but so light and fluffy. Would definitely go back for this alone. The other two dishes were the Cheese Grits Breakfast and Bubby's Breakfast. Nothing notable, but the cheese grits were good. Pro tip, I went for Sunday brunch and the line was LONG but the three of us opted to sit at the bar. Waited only 10 minutes and the service was excellent. It was also interesting to watch the bartenders in action during peak capacity."

"We arrived on a regular weekday and around 10 am for brunch! There was no way and we were able to go in immediately. From the start to end the staff were all very friendly and nice!

I highly recommend getting the home fries instead of the regular fries!

Since we wanted to try as many as possible we ended up ordering a little bit more than we should have 😅 but we didn't quite know the portion of each dish so maybe that's something the staff could advise on do not have any food wasted! But again overall the staff were very nice.

Each of the dishes were very delicious and would come back if I lived around the area! I hope that there's a choice to order just one pancake instead of the whole thing 😀

You cannot bring in your stroller so you have to leave it outside which was okay but a bit scary considering it could be stolen..."

Known as a comfort food stalwart, a visit to Bubby’s is welcome any time of day—but brunch is when this Tribeca restaurant really shines. You’ll know you’re there when you spot the line stretching down Hudson Street, but the wait is well worth it for classic diner breakfast dishes like a Turkey B.A.L.T. and Huevos Rancheros. On the sweet side, Bubby’s pancakes are top notch and come in the James Beard variety, which are light and fluffy, or 1890 Sourdough, which come thin and chewy.

Hot Off the Griddle: NYC's Best Pancakes

The name means ‘grandma’ in Yiddish, but as pancakes go, Bubby’s is the coolest spot on the block. There are two styles of pancakes to choose from: the James Beard, (adapted from a recipe by the famed food writer) which is fluffy and sweet; or the 1890 Sourdough that is almost tangy and thin, more like a French crêpe. Once you’ve chosen a style, there’s the even more arduous decision of selecting from four different toppings — caramelized banana and toasted walnut, blueberry, whipped cream and chocolate chip, Nutella with berry jam, and fried chicken with bourbon maple syrup.

Known for its comfort food, Bubby’s also takes its pancakes very seriously.
