What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Haenyeo is celebrated for its creative takes on Korean classics and fresh seafood, with many praising the attentive service and cozy atmosphere. However, some diners note that portions can be small for the price, and a few found the flavors muted compared to traditional Korean cuisine. Despite minor criticisms, many consider it a standout dining experience in Park Slope.
"I recently had an amazing dining experience at Haenyeo, and I can’t recommend it enough! From the moment we arrived, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the perfect tone for the evening.
A huge shoutout to Izzy at the bar—she was incredibly informative, attentive, and made us feel truly taken care of. Her friendly and professional service really stood out!
Now, onto the food—absolutely phenomenal. We started with the Fluke Crudo and Grilled Oysters with Seaweed Butter on Brioche Toast—both were fresh, flavorful, and a perfect start to the meal. The Dukboki Fundido was next, and let me tell you, that sauce was straight-up crack—more on the sweet side than spicy, but still rich, saucy, and cheesy perfection with the chorizo and Oaxaca cheese bringing it all together. The kimchi was also excellent, adding just the right amount of tangy spice to complement everything. And to top it all off, we were treated to Sugar-Dusted Beignets—light, fluffy, and simply Soooo good!
Everything about Haenyeo was top-notch, from the impeccable service to the unforgettable flavors. Can’t wait to come back—highly recommend!"

"I wish I came to Haenyeo earlier on because I’d hands down say this is the best restaurant in Park Slope. The vibe inside, the staff, and the food are up to standard with some of the best restaurants in the city. Some standouts are their kimchi and bulgogi but I really didn’t have anything that was below average. I 100% will be back soon, hopefully when people are in town so we can show them some delicious food. Would highly recommend if you’re in the area (or even outside the area and are reading this)."

"Food is nice but portion is kind of small I would say?
Really like the seafood tofu or maybe cause that day was cold.
Vibe is good but too crowded that’s why only gave 4
But seems a nice hang out place"

After closing the long-running Dok Suni in the East Village in 2014 and Do Hwa in the West Village in 2018, chef Jenny Kwak decided she wasn’t done with restaurants just yet. So in late 2018, she opened this Park Slope gem that became an instant classic. Haenyeo’s name is a nod to legendary female deep sea divers from South Korea, and the concept is an homage to powerful matriarchs, as well as a hint that you’re about to experience a menu rife with seafood.

Don’t miss the dukboki fundido, a saucy and spicy rice cake topped with crumbled chorizo and stretchy Oaxaca cheese; crispy chicken wings with yang-yum sauce; deji kalbi, tender pork ribs with ginger and chili; and the soy-garlic sauce sautéed sablefish with baby bok choy.

Although they had limited options on the menu, the quality of the meals made up for this.
