If you're looking for something a bit more substantial, the best breakfasts in town are at Atlantic Grille in Middletown and Belle’s Café at the Newport. “You get to dine next to some of the biggest mega-yachts and best racing boats that come into Newport in the summer and get a peek at all that goes into keeping them in tip-top shape,” says Fernandez. “But don’t go on a Sunday unless you’re prepared to wait,” adds O’Neill.

While technically in Middletown, this surfer favorite is located just over the town line and across from Easton’s Beach (or First Beach as the locals call it). “The Grille” has a great breakfast menu including combo platters named after Newport’s famous beaches, for those that want a little taste of everything. The Surfer’s End (my personal fave!) for instance consists of two eggs, home fries, bacon, and a Belgian Waffle.

Atlantic Grille, located a bit outside of Newport in Middletown, is a cozy restaurant known for its diverse. It’s our top ranked breakfast spot on the island is always packed each weekend morning, but the quality of their lunch and dinner offerings is often overlooked. They truly do have one of the best lobster rolls in Newport and ultimately lands them at #4 on our list of best lobster rolls in Newport.

Other good chowder spots to try include Benjamin’s, Fieldstone’s, Atlantic Grille, Bishop’s 4th Street Diner, Annies’s on Bellevue and La Forge. You can also get a good cup at Foodworks, Graziano’s 501 Cafe and at Cindy’s Country Cafe in Portsmouth. It’s served at our pub’s (O’Brien’s), our breweries (Coddington Brewery), our hotels (Johnny's Restaurant) and even our pizza places (Nikolas Pizza).

My partner and I stumbled into Atlantic Grille the morning after an all-night dance party with some of the fiercest drag queens I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I was pleasantly surprised to find a short wait on a Saturday morning and was greeted by a kind server and warm cup of much-needed coffee. Their breakfast does not disappoint.

Breakfast at Atlantic Grille was dubbed the best breakfast in town by Conde Nast Traveler. It might be because their list of offerings include all your breakfast favorites kicked up several notches. Think: Philly cheese steak omelette, an Irish benny with a heaping serving of corned beef hash, and sweet bread french toast.

Atlantic Grille – 91 Aquidneck Ave, Middletown – “The Grille” serves up great pancakes, eggs, specialty wraps, killer eggs benny…variations on the benny too (served only on the weekends and holidays), and a slamming daily specials list. They have also added an extensive and delicious dinner menu, and now have a full bar.

As I arrived at Atlantic Grille, I immediately noticed the vibrant and lively atmosphere. This busy local place was filled with families and friends, all eager to indulge in some delicious seafood. The restaurant's family-friendly vibe was evident as kids laughed and played, creating a lively and welcoming ambiance.

Next is another of the best brunch places in Newport RI, the Atlantic Grille. This casual restaurant will remind you that you’re right by the water, with surfboards and other fun decor hanging on the walls. It’s technically located in Middletown but isn’t that far from Newport at all.

A place I grew up going to often, Atlantic Grill is another staple on the island. Serving up popular diner breakfasts, lunch specials and dinner, the Grill is a great casual spot to enjoy (and very family friendly). The Grill gets very busy on the weekends.

Founded around 1920, this renowned eatery specializes in breakfast and lunch, adorned with historical memorabilia on its walls. It's situated by Newport's First Beach.

I enjoyed the best clam chowder I’ve ever had here, as well as a Rhode Island specialty called a Quahog (or “Stuffie”), which is a breadcrumb stuffed clam.
